Well in the last 4 weeks I have racked up 6000km on my vibe commuting from Montreal to Hamilton to visit my Girlfriend. about 1800km round tripThe Vibe has been great to me...the seats work well for the long haul...wind noise is well good for a car with a roof rack and an open hactch area in plastic. Fuel consumption is good as well. And despite its hight its not too bad in the wind.I love this car....and with the front passenger seat folded flat its a great table to hold my Taco Bell.Just thought I'd share my thoughts on my highway companion.

Holy smokes! You must be in love, with the girlfriend I mean. 9 ish hours each way on a weekend? I thought I was bad. My dad would have asked, "So aren't there any girls up there son". So now I am asking you the same. She must be pretty special. It does give you lots of time to get acquainted with the Vibe.

Just realize it's his VIBE he's in love with. Having a distant girfriend is simpy a GREAT excuse to drive the Vibe.My girlfriend (my wife) lives WITH me. I have to think of all sorts of errands now to get quality time with my Vibe. KSNeptune

This summer, I went to Niagara Falls and if I remember correctly, it's ±5½ hours from Montréal to Toronto at 110 km/h.I think the 1800 km round trip is not exact...Using Mapquest I found that Montréal - Hamilton is 611.35 km and 6 hours, 19 minutes.... Hey R@@pid, are you using another highway (20 in Quebec and 401 in Ontario) to go there? Do you like your Vibe and put some extra kilometers on it just for fun?

quote:....last fall driving down to Toronto.... doing around 135-140 km/h and people were passing.... even cops in the center highway area were looking at us doing nothing.....Ah...the real way a highway should be.....Sweet. Frosty has only visited those speeds in short bursts, passing and what not.Are the U.S. Interstates as tolerant of such activities? I hear traffic can flow at a good clip.

I've hit 115 mph (about 185 km/h) now in my Vibe on the highway. It was only for about 1/2 of a mile, though. If traffic is moving well, I typically cruise at about 70-80 mph. I can't risk getting another speeding ticket within about the next year or I'll lose my liscense for 3 months. Owning a Mustang did not do wonders for my driving record. I didn't really drive faster or fast more frequently than in other cars, I just got caught more often. I think the cops liked to have bragging rights with other cops telling each other things like "hey, I tagged a Mustang today". The Vibe can really buzz along, though.

I am from Michigan also and I love driving my Vibe on our highways. I too have to watch my speed until I get my radar detector hardwired in. I am really looking forward to my tickets being erased from my record so my insurance will go down. Besides, I got caught even with the radar detector a few years ago when I was driving my Mitsubishi Eclipse. I was doing around 125 mph when my radar detector started going off (I was on a small hill, could not see over it). I slowed down, but the State policeman still clocked me at 104 mph. He wrote me up for that exact number too. I'm glad this happened before they raised the fines!Needless to say, I learned my lesson from that little run in.

That must have been a pretty hefty fine even then. How much did it set you back? My most expensive ticket was about 8 years ago and it cost me $280 U.S. That was before they raised them here too. In fact they ahve raised them here a couple of time since then. I don't drive as fast as I used to anymore. I've been known to from time to time but as often.

On a related note, I passed a cop at 140mph, got hit with instant-on radar...needless to say, I never saw his lights come on, he was pulling out after me, but I wasn't going to wait around to find out....

A word of caution re radar detectors in Ontario..

As far as I know radar detectors are illegal in Ontario (and probably many other places). I know that some years ago my wife was stopped and questionned about having a "fuzz buster". We didn't and don't have one and she didn't even know what it was. The cop just about turned the car upside down looking for it. She had braked at an inopportune moment as she was adjusting the radio and he misinterpreted her braking. She was heavy duty hassled!

To my knowledge, radar detectors are only illegal in Virginia and Washington D.C. I know they are legal in Texas where I live, but the cops don't look too highly on you if they stop you and notice one in the car.I have a Valentine One and it's the best $399 I've ever spent.

if you get pulled over with a radar detector in ontario, just stuff it down your pants. cops cant search there without resonable grounds for narcotics. just make sure the vg2 stealth is on so the radar detector DETECTOR cant detect your detector. cops have to prove it was operational at the time of the violation. it is not illegal to "poses" a fuzz buster in ontario, it is ilegal to operate a fuzz buster in ontario. only the newer opp impalas have the instant on lidar, and the fuzz buster detector installed. the majority only have the stationary x/y/ka old school radar gunns.
