Long post, but need to vent- - - Nice sunny day here at the beach, climbed in the Vibe to go to work, only working a half day because of a doctor appointment, so life is good. Not more than a mile from the house the car in front of me suddenly leaps into the air, I slam on the brakes and bamm! After I regain my senses, I realize what's happened; we've fallen in a large hole in the road. He was going fast enough to literally bounce out of the 9' long 18" deep hole that used to be a road patch left from the work on a sewer pipe overnight. Seems the road crew forgot too sure up the two larger holes on either side of the roadway and the soil and patch mix collapsed into either side causing the sink hole. Car has flat front tires and won’t even steer, call a wrecker, towed to dealership and courtesy shuttle takes me home. Car #2 – start off to work , now two hours late, still a sunny day, so I’m in my 90’ Mustang convertible. I’m going in the same direction as before, heading to work - one lane road ahead - go slow - make it over what used to my hole – cars all lined up on other side when suddenly a car cuts between a space in the line from a side road and bamm! I broad side her front quarter - air bag pops – car won’t drive and again tow truck comes, guy says aren’t you the same guy, shut up and tow the car! Road worker ask same question - shut up and fix the road! Neighbor whose house this all happen in front of asks aren’t you the guy who --- shut up and go back in the house old man! Car #3 - Get in wife’s Explorer, she’s on business trip - this time go in different direction, just in time to make my eye doctor appointment, Young smart a** Doctor says I need bi –focals, but it’s Ok since it’s common for men over 50 – I’m 40, tell young smart a** Doc to look at my hair line, it’s a mirror of the future for him! He dilates my eyes and guess what? Wife still away - can’t drive – call taxi – car left in office parking lot – on way home taxi driver starts telling me about what he saw today while waiting in traffic – shut up and take me home! Home now - 3 cars later– glasses set me back $300 - walking in dealership calls $1700 for repairs on Vibe - check answering machine, 2 messages, body shop called $4000 for Mustang and still looking for air-bag - sure that’s going to be pricey; wife called, wishes me a good day and sorry she forgot to get beer before she left. To sum it up: 3 cars gone, $6000 + in bills , no wife or beer or way to get either, at this point I’m afraid to see if the gun has bullets - - - Priceless Jim

I'm sure my insurance will cover the Vibe, either that or the city's will, as for the Mustang I'm on my own for that, liability only. As for any injuries, a bruise or two, back a little sore; my ego and wallet took the brunt of it. Jim

Holy automotive nightmares, Batman! What a day! If tomorrow weren't the weekend, I'd suggest you take it off. Hopefully you got a few future decades worth of crap out of the way today.

Sounds like you are not at fault for any of the crashes. Don't give up too easy. I played tag with a city garbage truck once. took some doing but got my car fixed with out any out of pocket cash.

Definitely sounds like YOU had the right-of-way in your Mustang incident. I'd press it with HER insurance company. The good news is, your luck HAS to get better! Hang in there!

Mustang accident was written up as no fault; citing me for too fast in a construction zone and her for failure too yield. Both of us got warnings and on our own for the damages, IMO he was a jerk and felt bad for the young girl, sees me as a middle aged dude in a convertible wishing to be young. Insurance Co said they’d press the city’s carrier for the Vibe. Got up sore as he** today, buddy came by to take me to get wife’s car and get brew, so the doctor’s order for the day is: Sofa+ Beer+ Hockey – Wife = Great afternoon! Jim

damn, and I thought I had a bad week. glad to hear you weren't really hurt if you don't get anywhere, call and ask for the city's Risk Manager, at least that is what the title is here, he is the one that would or should be in charge of accidents and such for the city. Our guy is hard nosed and always turns down claims ... the first time around. when threatened with lawsuit, then he usually comes forth.

A while a go a "lady" cut me off at a gas station, and I broadsided her. The cop at the scene said that it was her fault. She pitched a fit to her insurance, said that it was my fault and I shoud pay for her damaged (she crossed two lanes of traffic to shoot into the station, I was leaving. Any way she was such a witch, my (old) insurance caved, and it had to go to arbitration (I was in Connecticut at the time). They said that it was 85% her fault, so her insurance paid 85% of my detuctible. The motto of my story, if you think that you were wronged stick with it, and make a lot of noise. The squeky wheel gets the grease. Good luck.

Got the Vibe back today only $770, dealer replaced left hand lower control arm (it got bent bad), and two front tires (ripped or blown out side walls), rims are only dinged but they say their good. City's adjuster called and went to see the car, said their filing a claim for our damages (4 car in all). It happened to two cars earlier in the morning, not sure why the road was still that way by the time I got there. Brought the Mustang home yesterday, decided to fix it myself, I can do a lot of work for $4k, needed to be restored anyway. Thanks for all the support, Jim

I'm sorry, but that is one of the funniest stories I have ever heard. I don't have anything that can compare to that, other than the time I had my '03 Dakota QC 4x4 in for service. The dealership gave me a loaner, a bright red k-car. All was fine until something in the dash shorted and that car caught fire. That was fun explaining to the dealership....

I hit a construction zone (unmarked) and smashed the oil pan out of my last car.The county paid 100% of the bills - after I snaped lots of photos of the site. Including the orange signs in the ditch face down. They wouldn't touch the claim until I slapped a album full of photos in front of them, and mentioned a local law firm.

Here's an update - - - I got my check from the City's insurance carrier yesterday for the full $770 for my Vibe damage. All of the 4 of our claims were paid, I was amazed it was this easy; all they asked from us was a release of liability. I also had an opportunity to speak with the officer who cited me in the Mustang crash, he agreed he was a bit hasty in not investigating my crash further, this is after I pointed out to him three previous citation the girl had from similar crashes in the past 2 years she had her license. Thanks to a friend at the local coffee joint, Port City Java, who knew her and she had all the good dirt. I called her Dad and said I was going to get the ticket looked at again and her agreed to pay half if I let it drop. So I now have 2K in hand, cash BTW, for the 'stang. Car’s mostly apart waiting for the front clip and bag, should by on the road by mid-May with any luck, Thanks again for the support, Jim
