Alignment Issue

Post by tooCanad@yahoo.com »

I tend to extend the rotation period on my tires.Past experience has shown, things are never the same once the wheels come off. This time I rotated at 30,000 km. The guy in the shop said the rear tires were wearing funny. He sugessted unusual wear was related to a miss alignment. I was surprised, the car was tracking fine on the road, no shimmy, no vibration, no dog tracking , and no pull in either direction. There have been no impacts to the wheels.I said I would take it into consideration and drove off. After the rotation the car did not track true. It seemed to be tracking to the left.I took it into GM for an alignment and the problem went away.Has anyone else had any issues related to alignment following tire rotation.Tony Canadario

I too usually go longer than recommended on rotation, but I have been surprised to not have had any alignment problems. in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=20909 04BlkVibe is having what may be an alignment problem that was not apparent until switching to winter tires. Not sure why rotating or switching tires would bring out an alignment problem, unless something about the old tire/location tended to compensate for the misalignment.Welcome to genvibe, what year/color/options do you have?

I have had some guys try to pull fast one's on me before as to alignment, Tire and other type of equipment related issues. One guy at a break place said my rear brakes needed service and were leaking fluid. Never had a problem before I said and he then proceeded to tell me the break was wet from fluid. I told him I just checked the rear and I did not see anything and left. on the way home the break light came on. ( Surprise) I checked the fluid which was a bit low so I checked the break. Yep there was fluid on it alright. From the bleeder that got opened some how. Never went back there. I also had other people do some stupid stuff to my car before.

Mine is a 2004 Black 5speed.Iteresting the vehicle in the link was the same model, color, and year. There defintely was an issue with the alignment, hands off of the wheel and we were drifting left.Drifting problem has been resolved with the alignment, unfortunately there is some irregular wear on the tires that were on the back, now on the front and a slight vibration a high speed. This could be a balancing issue. However, me thinks these tire are destined for the scrap heap. Never liked them anyway.

I rotate tires every 5,000 miles, check pressures regularly and they last 55,000-60,000 miles. My car will be going to the dealer soon for the Continental tire wear issue. We will see how that goes...
