Guage swap

Just wondering if anyone knows if the odometer reading comes from the computer or is built into the cluster, I might be interested in swapping mine for a 04, but I'm not sure if the odometers will match. Any help?

Am I reading this correctly that the milage info is stored within the cluster? So, if I get the '04 cluster as a replacement for my '03 cluster, the new cluster will not indicate "my" milage?

The new cluster would need to be programmed with your old cluster mileage.

So anyway, the odometerr reading is in the gauge cluster, and transfers with the gauge. I rigged a way to simulate the vehicle speed input and walked the new cluster up to the mileage of the old cluster, but there are places where you can send a cluster to have the odometer programmed. When I looked into that option, it seemed like a company called SPECMO was the best deal, but that was still $100 just to get the mileage set. The replacemnet cluster I had was lower miles than the one in my car, so I could get away with walking it up. If the mileage on the new one is higher, you need someone with the right tool to reprogram it., and I couldn't figure out how to make one.i also learned that these odometers do not roll over, 249,999 miles is all you can get out of it. ( I happen to currently have an 03 cluster with 249,999 miles on the odometer if anyone wants to purchase it to retrofit their glaring white gauges for the ultra cool all red gauges, please IM me )

Sounds like a business deal! I'll buy one with 15K miles on it.
