I was wondering if the engine air filter is a DEALER ONLY item,or can you get it at Wal-Mart or Canadian Tire.

Most Automotive parts places will have aftermarktet filters. I got mine from Autozone.

I remember looking for it at Crappy Tire and didn't see it at all. The reference booklet at the display said to check with the parts counter, so they may have it in back. Kinda strange since it's the same filter as the Toyota Corolla, which is one of the best selling cars in Canada. In the end I special ordered a K&N filter from Parts Source (a Cdn. Tire owned store), but had to wait two weeks for them to get it from K&N.

I couldn't believe my eyes... so I took it as a sign and picked it up.

I was not able to find it at Wal-Mart (too bad as they have free installation). Got one at Andersons - an interesting Michigan based retailer that also has store in Ohio. Andersons has an extensive offering of unique food products, deli, cheese, meat, produce, beer and wine. Also hardware, housewares, small appliances, home & garden, automotive, and building supplies.

OK - how do you put this air filter in. Saw that there are two clips, but looks like it's not that easy to get the air filter assembly open - a lot of stuff seems to be in the way.

Undo the clips you see and push the top back I believe, it is hinged. Once you pop the clips it should be relatively easy to see and will move upward if pulled.Nothing else needs to be moved or loosened...
