Our neighbourhood has a competition for the best light display.. two days to really show it for judging by the neighbourhood but the rules say all lights have to be up no earlier than Dec 1 and down/off no later than Dec 31. Winner gets $100.00 , 2nd place $75.00, third $50.00. I can take 30 days of this craziness, am glad there are rules. If you have lights on before or after those dates you get fined by the property managment guild.

I don't know, I rather enjoy Christmas light displays. We have all the rest of the year to revel in the joy of viewing everyone's plain, drab yards. Some people take it way too far and it can look trashy, but I've seen displays with lots of stuff in them that looked tasteful, if not in a way artistic.Seems that the people who are most disturbed by having to see Christmas light displays are often the same people who want to make the case that they are somehow personally damaged by the mere existance of Christmas. Interesting.

We do that as well, but usually at the beginning of December, and we get Egg Nog Lattes from Starbucks.

My grandparents used to drive us around like that every year to look at the Christmas lights too. That really brings back some great memories. There was a small farm in one subdivision where the owners went all out to decorate their property. They even had a few ponies and on certain nights of the week during the Christmas season, the family members would put the little kids who came with their families to see the decorations on the ponies and take them on a tour around the property. That's probably why I love horseback riding to this day. That reminds me, when the weather gets nice again, I should go riding. I haven't done that in a long time. Of course, I might have to ride an elephant now, I might break a horse's back.

Do any of these insane people have to worry about planes landing on their houses?

I bet the AC meter on the side of their house sounds like a turbo spooling up on an Mac truck...Insane... I wonder how many were shutdown because of traffic problems?Heh - poetic justice.
