How many of us have to work on Black Friday?

Total BS...the base commander wanted minimum manning for all the flights and I was one of the lucky people tasked to come to work. I was the only car on the freeway this morning, then I passed only 2 cars while on base. The whole time I was listening to the radio hosts wish everybody a happy day off, traffic is light because of the holiday, enjoy your shopping, etc etc etc. Here I am sitting at my desk, only one in the office, with a building population of less than 10 people.

<<<is at work. Only 3 people were allowed off in Fixed Ops, out of about 25. I'm just glad we havn't had our internet access taken away yet, or there would be a muntiny today.

Busy day for me...wait a minute...wrong country (sarcasm is so cheap). We don't have a black Friday here in Canada. I was just watching a video of a fight at a Wal-mart over some laptops so maybe it is safer to be at work.Cheers. Our Thanksgiving was a month ago.

working right now as I write this. Obviously not too busy. One disadvantage about working at a hospital. We never close.

Yeah I have to work too.... all weekend in fact. I worked Thanksgiving, then today, then I work tomorrow and Sunday. 5pm-5am. It really sucks because by the time I get off from work I am too tired to go shopping so I'm missing out on all the massive deals.

I work tomorrow. The wife has been working since 12am last night at one of the places that opened at midnight... but she also got what she wanted to at that place and then at Best Buy across the road.

It really sucks sometimes at about 3 am when you think that everyone else in the world is sound asleep. 20 out of the last 27 years I have been on rotating shifts...12 on 12 off. Oh-well it pays good, and you get to sleep while everyone else works.

Our local best buy had a fight break out 30 minutes before the doors opened. My bro-in-law showed up just as the cops were leaving - they shooed everyone away and he got out walked up to the door as it was opening. Some people in the checkout line were talking about it - the fight broke out over someone cutting in line. Can't say I blame them - it was 19 degrees outside at 6am. Some chump decided to cut in after I waited for 45 minutes - he'd get an (removed) whoopin'... I'm not much of a morning person.I worked retail and customer service while in school... so when I went out with the wife to be her pack mule - we were extra nice to the people working. I had to admit - Target had some downright friendly folks that made the morning rush tollerable.Or maybe it was the starbucks they just put in.

The wife has been working since 12am last night at one of the places that opened at midnight... but she also got what she wanted to at that place and then at Best Buy across the road.here's a recap:we started at 11pm Thanksgiving night at Comp USA. it wasn't a huge line, but fairly long. Across the street at Best Buy, people were already camped outside their main door. My little cousin stood in line while 4 of us worked the line, handing out donuts and juice (we didn't have anything to put coffee into) and talking to people about our plug-n-play internet services. we had our Tahoe pulled up with a unit working so people could demo it and check their emails, etc. at midnight when the doors opened, i went inside (no soliciting inside) with my cousin to get the items we had on our list (for ourselves, his family, co-workers and some other friends). there were a few items i didn't get including a 20" LCD HD TV they had listed in the ad. it wasn't even on display! then we got into the enormous check out line. this was about 12:30 am Friday morning. Then one of the guys I work with came in and he wanted a laptop from bestbuy. people were already gathering there and they opened at 5 am. so he took my cousin over to best buy while i stayed in line at CompUSA. about 1:30 am I was finished. the rest of the work crew headed over to get some breakfast at Denny's and I headed over to Best buy to check on my little cousin. we had set up a table and my laptop with our wireless modem and he was playing online and listening to music. unfortunately the 10 ° F temp outside killed my battery, so i had 2 laptops going: one being used while the other charged in the car.... after about 45 mins, I left to Denny's to pick us up some food and get the scoop on what we were going to do at Best Buy. technically we were allowed to sell in and out of the store, but the lady in charge of our resellers wanted us to give all qualified sales to her and split any manual overrides (they live in areas that we'd have to go to their houses and test). we all decided that sucked and no way! we'd been out there all night since 11:30pm and she shows up at 4:30 am before the doors open? HELL NO! we have our mall kiosk right outside one of the entrances, so we just grabbed people as they came out of the store and brought them over to us. then we all split the sales so it was fair and even. after i got back getting breakfast, i sat outside while my cousin ate and warmed up in the car for about an hour or so. some customers of mine i set up weds night showed up at 3 am and we all took turns keeping watch while we warmed up in the cars. once the doors opened at 5 am, my main focus was a 26" LCD HDTV for our bedroom, i got that and then some other items while my cousin got the $129 5.1 mp camera. Once I got into line for the $150 E-machines computer, he just went and picked up everything else on our list. we did pretty darn well! I even picked up a different 20" LCD TV but the resolution wasn't as good. it was about $10 LESS than the other at CompUSA. it all worked out well for everyone, my co-worker got one of the last laptops, my customer got his, we both got the cheapy computer system, i got my prized TV and pretty much all the other items on our huge list. cousin and customers sat in line while again, i had to go and work outside the doors (inside the mall). once they got close, i came back inside to pay. since it was now 9 am, we who were there all night were told to go home, get a nap and come back about 1 pm. so i took my cousin to meet his folks and got home about 10 am to get a 2 hr nap. got back to the mall to the kiosk about 1:30 pm to relieve some of the other guys. then at 5 pm, everyone else left me! so i was there by myself til 10 pm!CompUSA forgot to give me 2 of my rebate submissions and they were open til midnight. so i went back over there (just across the street) where it was totally empty! NICE! I got my rebates and asked the guy about that TV that was in the ad but not in the store. he looked it up and they had 18 of them! he says, oops! guess they forgot to put those out.... so i went ahead and got one because it was only $10 more and better resolution. this is Mav's Christmas present.... so now we got his better TV/Monitor and i'm undecided on if i should go ahead and keep the other one or not. it's such as great price and they are all sold out now! such a dilemma! lol. needless to say, when i got home at 11pm, i CRASHED! now i'm heading BACK to open the store.... but i don't think i'll be working a full 24 hr shift this time! so that's my black friday story as long as it is.....
