How surprise I was when checking on "Vibe of the month" (dec) and looking at NSimkins pics http://www.nicksimkins.com/gal...00565My wheel liner been exactly broken the same way (I tought it was my car pictured...). How did it happened, don't know yet but amazingly it's the exact same spot, shape and size as mine !!! Is there any weakness at this place. Does anyone else observed this on their car?Did NSimkins use the same part from GM to remplace the defective one or use something else...

Does anyone else observed this on their car?I'm really not quite sure how it happened, but I believe I may have ran something over in the road that got caught in the well (I'm lowered with Tein S-Tech's).Also, I was missing a couple push-pin fasteners on the liner before I noticed the hole probably from my incident earlier this year, so it's a possibility the tire may have contacted the liner as I was turning/the liner was a little loose. I'm doubting this though.Quote, originally posted by SCTM »Did NSimkins use the same part from GM to remplace the defective one or use something else...Yes, I used a GM part bought at partszoneonline.com. (thanks to ragingfish for the part numbers)Driver: 88969697Passenger: 88969696rasermon also had/has a hole in his liner on the driver's side as well. I'm sure he'll post up with his experience too, as he has just or will be soon replacing his liner. The hardest part about replacing the liner (well, removing the original) were the 3 bolts toward the rear (in this pic) of the well where the liner had to be forcefully pulled-out due to the locking-type design of the liner between the bolt and body. It's hard to explain, until you get in there and have to do it yourself.

I had someone come in when I worked for GM with their Vibe. They had hit a raccoon which knocked the driver's side wheel liner down. It made contact with the tire and even through the liner could have been put back in, it had a neat little hole worn right through it down the middle. I often wonder when I'll knock a hole through mine. Being lowered like Nick's here, when I have a wheel well packed with snow and hit a bump... I can hear that crunch of snow, tire and liner... one of these days.

I think it was caused by your tire while turning. I'm pretty sure that's what happen to me, but on my way to the Ohio Meet I also ran over a small piece of tire that made it come almost off. I have the part, just need to take the time and install it.

The other side isn't so bad b/c it wasn't loose.

I still have that piece of crap duct taped together on my car. I haven't really been able to afford replacement, nor have I been able to convince myself that this clunker is really worth throwing down that kind of money on anyway. I hate how they made that thing all one piece, makes it cost more to replace! I damaged the part that goes under the bumper. The part that is in front of the tire is fine except that it is loose and has nothing holding in place anymore except well, duct tape.

I could have probably patched the hole myself, but seeing I didn't want to get the CAI filter too gunky, I went ahead and ordered a replacement seeing I would have to take the whole liner out anyway to make a good patch.

Hey Jason, the hole in my fender liner is bigger than yours . I could almost change out my cai filter through it.Mine happened after I put Corolla front strut assemblies on. My camber was really messed up since the lower strut assembly holes were smaller than the hub bracket. Must've burned through on a hard right turn.I'm wondering if I should just buy a new one or spend the time repairing it. I was thinking of cutting up a metal baking sheet and screwing it into the plastic.

Hey folks I have change my wheeliners twice by myself because of this problem and I figured out why it was happening....yes some have had "things" contact with the liner but I noticed that all the clips that are on my liner are either broken or missing. I have replaced the broken clips and it seems that ever time I take the car in for servicing one or two clips pop out and because they don't know where to replace them or they just don't care or they are items they keep in stock. each clip is a buck 50 at the toyota dealership near me in Toronto. anyways. you have to look under your car near the front to see where the actual clip holes are and look carefully in the wheel well to see again where all the clip holes are. I hope this helps.Spydeer
