I have the 2004 base vibe and im gettin an Injen CAI, ive been told in the past that CAI can suck up water especially in puddles, so i was wondering of i should go out and buy a water bypass valve and get a hydro shield, i already have the Heat Shield/Splash Guard, also as a side note if anyone has a CAI on there 04 base vibe, can u please tell me about how low and where the filter rests at, thanks.

I had a CAI on my '04 base and drove in some wicked rain storms and through lots of huge puddles of slush and never had a problem. The filter is tucked in behind the drivers side foglight, so it is quite well protected.

i really only think that this is a worry if you are running a supercharger or a turbo.

While that may provide a harder suction. you should still not go through any puddles high enough to submerge the filter. The splash shield should potect it well enough from rain and stuff, but if you want to be safe a hydro shield and bypass valve can't hurt. Some have also cut the CAI to make place where they can switch from CAI to short ram if needed. Hope that helps. I have on 04 base auto supercharged Vibe with Injen CAI and haven't had any problems as of yet and have driven through some good rain showers, but I'm not sure you're going to immediately notice if you are taking more water into your intake than you should be (which would be none! ) until it breaks for good. Just my $0.02!

I have the Injen CAI on my 2004 Base and have had no problems with it even in torrential down pours, car washes etc. As with any vehicle, just use discretion when approaching standing water. enjoy

only time you need to be concerned is if you have water sitting above the fog lamps.

Found a way to get around the hydrolock worries, but most will probably not want to go this route!

I'm pretty sure I was the first base Vibe to put a cai on. That was like 3 years ago. Not a single problem with it yet (knock wood). I had to snip an inch on the throttle side to get it to fit better with the s/c. And I snipped an inch off the filter side to make it easier to remove and clean the filter twice a year.

with a cai you have to cut it a inch if you install a helix power tower (throttle body spacer), blue crush did this i think, i havent gotten a intake yet but i have the power tower installed.
