Quote »XM Radio unveils Canadian lineup, includes hockey talk channel2005-11-16 16:40:00TORONTO (CP) - A channel devoted entirely to hockey talk and another to news are among the offerings marking XM Radio's entry to the Canadian marketplace.One of three satellite radio stations that won CRTC licences earlier this year for a subscription-based radio service, XM unveiled its commercial-free channel lineup Wednesday.Subscribers will have access to 80 specialty channels of music, news, sports and comedy, including talk radio from comedian Ellen DeGeneres and model-turned-talk-show host Tyra Banks as well as music programming by rapper Snoop Dogg.The station will have play-by-play coverage of 1,000 NHL games this season, and will become the exclusive satellite-radio home of NHL games for the 2007-08 season.XM - brought to Canada by Canadian Satellite Radio, a company involving former Toronto Raptors owner John Bitove and Washington-based XM Satellite Radio holdings - also announced eight Canada-specific channels.Among them: Home Ice, a round-the-clock hockey talk channel; Laugh Attack, featuring homegrown comedians; Canada 360, a 24-hour news and information channel; Quoi de neuf, entertainment news in French; and Air musique, a hip-hop, punk and alt-rock channel.XM's service will cost $12.99 a month. Receivers will retail for $99.Earlier this month Sirius Canada - a partnership involving the CBC, Standard Radio and the U.S. Sirius Satellite service - announced its lineup of 100 channels of music, news, sports and entertainment, including 10 Canadian channels in English and French.
