Don't those profits ($9.9B quarterly) seem a little extreme? I mean, come on, we are suffering and they are raking in the cash for no apparent reason. And the people get shafted again!

If they are profiting like this then maybe they can build more refineries to decrease the cost of production.

It was just reported on ABC News that oil company profits were up 65% during the last quarter. Anybody besides me seeing big business tearing you and me to shreads?

Yeah, this is pretty interesting. Of course they're trying to spin it saying that it won't last.I think the better point would be that it NEVER should have happened at all!There's no way to spin this or to justify it that will hide the fact that there was some price gouging occuring.

I suspect that these profits result from a mere few pennies (certainly less than 5 cents) per gallon additional profit.

I really don't see how the upper level management of these companies can sleep at night, knowing what they have done and what they continue to do. They truly are cruel, heartless people. They will never know what it is like to have to cut just about everything from your budget and still not have enough to get by. They don't have to make any sacrifices - none of that "having to decide between food, paying bills, or buying gas so you can continue getting to work" stuff. That's all for those poor losers. Mayber I'm being too harsh on them though. I guess they have to make sacrifices too - like whether they should stay in the office crafting their next big scam to push the little guy even closer to the poverty line; or whether they should just fly off in their corporate jet to some far away island that they probably own instead. Life is hard!
