Hey, when looking at the 2006 AWD standard equipment. I just noticed ...they have rear heater ducts. Per the GM web site. I suppose the console may be different to get the heat there? Anyone know of other differences?

Heater ducts...?You mean a/c vents?

well, unless it's on the front center console. it's under the front pass seats. we all have them. they've been standard on vibes.i think the case is the latter. since they refer to them as heater ducts. must that they only flow heat vent when the vent is set on the floor mode.

it was optional on the matrix. So my 2005 does not have it. 2006 I believe a different console with ducts under them. My Bonneville had such an arrangement.

My Bonneville had such an arrangement.I think you'll find that these are the same under-seat ducts that all model-year Vibes have. Car sites such as Edmunds.com shows the 2005 with "rear ventilation ducts", and the 2006 as the same.

There are switches on the two dome lights instead of the dash mounted combination dimmer and switch. You can control them independently. I leave the rear one turned off and turn it on if I need to see in the back at night. The console is the same one with the crappy one level lid as the '05, soon to be changed on mine to an '04 lid.

Since there is no ducting, and the consoles appear the same '03-'05. There are no rear seat heater ducts on the '03 to '05 Vibe models. Someone at Edmonds is dreaming. You find them take a picture for everyone. In the 2005 Edmonds specs also said in standard features, there is front seat back storage....NOT in a 2005. Good news for me, found a 2005 matrix lid at the junk yard $25. Car had 1200 miles & was totalled. But much of the interior was good. So let's see those vent pictures...hee, hee... I see the pics now...thanks CP. I found them...

they are on the floor under the front seats in my '04

I often find the "window stickers" on those sites are very much wrong.The sticker said my G6 should get 17/25, while the "REAL" window sticker said 21/29. Dunno why...but I trust the "REAL" one more then the web one.Cause my Vibe never got NEAR 36 on a highway. 26 was the average...usually lower...

wow i haven't gotten anything below 32 in town, and i'm averaging 42-45 mpg on the highway

I've got that option package on mine, pretty schweet - you guys don't know what you are missing. 19 city and 26 highway is about all I can get out of mine anymore, filled up 250 miles ago and I'm arleady seeing the low fuel light.

Yeah, GM needs to do something - that car is obviously defective... That is a danger to have out on the road, so they need to do what is right and buy it back. Unless he is using the Canadian miles per gallon calculations.

im averaging 35 highway and town mixed. that is on 15 fill ups now. gals prices are going down. We are sitting at $2.23 in martinsville VA

Of course highwy and town mixed could be 99/1 or 1/99, but even so either you have an exceptionally fuel efficient Vibe or you are an exceptionally good driver or a bit of both. Stick shift I presume. Other possibility is that you weigh 80 lbs, never have a passinger on board, removed all the other seats, and have an empty glove box.

I usually get 41 mpg on highway-only trips where I can use the cruise and don't have to run the A/C or the defroster...37 mpg when I do have to run the defroster or A/C and can't always use the cruise. But around town it takes a nosedive, averaging 27 mpg nearly every time I fill up. But 41 on the highway is very possible!

AND these are EPA numbers.Good point, but lets be honest at 60mph steady speed on the highway the couple of hundred pounds difference would be negligible for MPG. Aero of course would make a world of difference, but i would bet the Aero difference between a Corolla and Vibe is minute. My guess is the Corolla has different transmission gearing allowing the engine to turn fewer RPM's in 5th gear.

My sister's Corolla doesn't get anywhere near the EPA numbers either... She's upper 20's on average with an automatic. The reason she bought that thing was because she thought it would get good mileage. Oops! I guess it could always be worse...

CP,thanks for the picture. I see...under the carpet. I'll look at my 2005. But I suspect like the armrest @ the console. It was another cost savings measure. As far as mileage statements. The online listings are wrong from Pontiac. The sticker on the window is all you can tend to go by... Minus 2 for automatics is a safe bet. Since some have a heavier foot. UPDATE: HEY, I DID FIND THE HEATER OUTLETS. BUT Seriously, not much in the way of airflow comes out of mine. Just enough to keep your passangers' footsies warm. Thanks, Jason

You do have a Vibe not a Matrix, right jasonvibe? I don't know what it is like now, I have not looked at the Matrix standards and options since 2003, but back then it appeared to me that they cheaped out and didn't throw in the rear seat heat ducts standard like the Vibe, IIRC. It was part of a "heavy duty heater package" or something. If you own a Vibe though, you should still have them. That is one thing they haven't eliminated as far as we are aware. These ducts don't make themselves quite obvious compared to having actual vents back on the console like some cars have which will be good for A/C, heat or whatever. They don't put out large amount of a lot of air, just enough to keep a bit of warm air flowing to the rear of the car. And like what was mentioned earlier, only will work when the vent selector is on one of the positions that include the floor.

You'll see I have a 2005 Vibe AWD. The ducts are under the seat. But GM did not make it known on the 2005 like new 2006 they specifically list it as an interior feature. The ducts flow air...not much. The fan in these cars has to be the most powerful fan I have ever experienced. SO I expected a bit more air flow when set to the floor position. But better than nothing.
