My Vibe is CURSED!!!!!

Yes, I believe my Vibe must be cursed. On my way home from work yesterday I was rear-ended for the FOURTH time now! When I say four times, do not think I could have prevented any of these accidents at all. Last night, I came over the crest of a hill in rush hour traffic. As soon as I could see over the roof of the SUV in front of me, immediately I saw brake lights. The SUV in front of me locks it's brakes, swirves off to the side, I slam on my brakes, ABS kicking in and come to a stop right behind the next car in front of me. I watch my rear view mirror and see a Camry coming....approaching.... getting closer.... slowing down.... then BAM!!! It was madness with cars all slamming on brakes, swirving around, brakes locking, and I was the only lucky one to actually get HIT! All this traffic that came to a hault was because of the moronic drivers that wanted to slow down to see three cars pulled over with a cop. I didn't even see damage to those cars. That created a 1/2 mile backup that came to a stop immediately over the crest of a hill. My damage appears to be minor, the least out of all my accidents, but the repair cost may still be the same as all the others since they usually cannot simply repaint our bumpers since they are textured. The guy that hit me had a Camry with no license plate on the front, so it was his smooth front bumper that kissed my car's a$$. It was still a hard hit and I was so surprised to only find some minor spider webbing in the paint, a couple minor clear coat scratches, and one bumper mount broken. I hope they can repair it without having to replace and paint a whole new bumper, just for the guy's sake and so I don't have to go through the inconvenience, but whatever happens, happens. When we pulled over, we asked if we're both okay and I was sorta laughing because I've been through this SO many times now. I even mentioned that this was my 4th time being rear-ended, but afterwards I was thinking I should not have said that. I don't want him to think that I purposely try to get rear-ended to get money. I'm just frustrated, but then also think it's funny, but there is nothing I can do about it. So, do I have the GenVibe record for most accidents? Luckily though they have all been minor and cosmetic only. Here is a timeline of everything so far.May 2002- Took delivery of my new Vibe GT.March 2003- Slipped on black ice into a bank of snow/ice, damaged lower front bumper piece. This is the only accident I have ever been at fault and there wasn't much I could have really done to prevent it.Oct 2003- Rear-ended for the 1st time on RT 7.April 2004- Rear-ended for the 2nd time on RT 7.Sept 2004- Rear-ended for the 3rd time on RT 7.June 2005- Car backs into front of mine.Oct 2005- Screw found in tire, had to be replaced.Oct 2005- Rear-ended for the 4th time on RT 7.I drove my old Ford Escort for over 3 years and never had a single accident. I get my Vibe and have had 6 accidents and one unrepairable tire with it. There was nothing I could have done to prevent any of these. When braking in an emergency, I try to come to a stop as quickly as I can without hitting the person in front of me and trying to give the person behind me as much space as possible to stop as well. The black ice was my fault, could have driven slower, but I was going 10 mph through my neighborhood, I was already being cautious. Oh well, nothing I can do about this. I'm planning to go to the shop today after work to have it looked at. I love my Vibe, but am getting frustrated with all the accidents it attracts. I'm also getting sick of the moronic drivers in my area. I just got back from an awesome trip to San Diego Tuesday night and am planning to move out there next summer.Later,

It wouldn't help prevent people from rear-ending me either, probably just make it worse.

I wish we had other options and that people would learn to drive better.

No, my brake lights should be fine. I have the state inspection done each year and it's always passed just fine. I'm also sure the guy that rear ended me would have said something if my brake lights weren't working. I also put on my warning flashers as soon as I noticed everyone skidding around to try to alert drivers behind me. If I rear-ended someone and their brake lights didn't work, I'd definitely mention it. I've driven behind idiots that don't have any working brake lights and it is dangerous. I try to change lanes ASAP.

Your in the DC area/NoVa traffic, which is nasty. There's always huge backups, people in a hurry. Doesn't matter how you drive, you can't keep the guy behind you from riding too close for the speed, and if you leave one car length in front, someone will pull in. Not roads for timid driversalso, we've had a really dry summer and fall, but this week it is drizzling all the time. Seattle weather. Roads are slick, visibility is down, and people here are out of practice. Lots of accidents. Sorry to hear one of them was you.

what you need is a navigation system that will find you an alternative route home. stay away from RT 7

Yeah Route 7 is cursed, not you! Seems the majority of your accidents seem to be from there.Maybe other drivers are just attracted to your Vibe so they come up for a closer look then realized they came up TOO close! j/kYour Vibe is just an accident magnet! Keeping my fingers crossed that you will not have any more accidents.... at least til next year!As for you moving to San Diego, it is very nice here with lots to do, but VERY expensive! My fiance and I have decided that if we can't afford to live here, we might try Texas since property is cheaper there.Good luck with the car!

I currently live in the fastest growing county in the country (Loudoun). Prices are outrageous here too and for the same amount I pay here in northern VA I could have a nice place near the ocean being in San Diego. For example, 1 bedroom condos in the ghetto parts of town start at $200k. Nicer condos start at $250k and go well into the $400k's.

I have a very good record; never had a ticket and never caused an accident with others. I've only put in the minor claim with my black ice incident, but they didn't even count that against me. All those other accidents were caused by other people and their insurance companies paid for everything. It affected them, not me.

I don't use the flashes so much on people that are on my @$$, but I will keep the brake held down or hit it repeatedly to say, LOOK, YOU IDIOT... And when coming to a stop, I always have plenty of room... I've been the innocent guy in the middle before, got rear ended and slammed into a vehicle in front of me, I'll be damned if that is happening again. It pisses people off when they see a space big enough to fit an Excursion and and H2 in front of my car, but to hell with 'em.

If you leave a safety zone ahead of you - like a responsible driver - every asshat behind you races around you like you're standing still and jumps in so they're an extra '20 ahead of where they were before.I understand 100% why there were shootings on the LA Freeways - it's a dream of many...

Yes, putting your life and countless others in jeopardy really pays off!

I feel your pain, I felt the same way in the SportTrac I traded in on my Vibe - it was rear-ended 3x, 2 I was at a complete stop waiting at a light, it seemed it attracted accidents.....but have to tend to agree the major factor is that Rt7 in your case, mine all occured on different roads - that sounds like a very baddd road to be forced to drive! As for the property, it's still pretty nice and cheap in the midwest, when I hear of the prices they are wanting for condos...I just look over to see what that type of money would buy here, you would be amazed.

Yeah, my second time being rear-ended on Rt 7 was during rush hour in the morning on my way to class. I was among a hundred or so cars waiting at a light, we hadn't moved for a minute or two. Then suddenly, BAM! The idiot behind me ran into me even when he was sitting there for the last minute or so. He didn't give me any excuse, but he wasn't that smart. He got out and first thing he said was something along the lines of "Oh, looks like I hit your car and scratched it up." So, I am stuck on driving on Rt 7. It is the main road to get anywhere in my area and I live right off it. My car just really attracts the accidents, because none of my family and friends have gotten in accidents on Rt 7 and most haven't even been in accidents. Yeah, about property prices, I've look in other places and seen the huge differences. The problem is the job markets. My older brother is being stationed in Ft. Rucker, AL again and he just moved into his townhouse that he is renting. For less than half what I pay for my 1 bedroom apartment, he is getting a 2 bedroom townhome with a garage.

What good timing this event has...In Wisconsin fines and demerit points are double in work zones... the very thing happened to me this morning on my way to Madison. Driving 75mph... until I get to the construction zone marked with 55MPH signs, LED displays, and construction speed zone signs (it was pretty obvious they wanted you to slow down).I got passed by some chump in a Grand Marquie chatting on his cell phone. His conversation got cut short by a state trooper. And, if you're an out of state driver - you don't leave until the trooper has your credit card charged or you stand in front of a judge... your choice. (ha ha ha )
