Oooooo! Our engines have a "Taper Squish"!!!I have no clue what that is, but it's fun to say.

our engines also have the potential to put the power to the ground. these things are very well designed. too bad we have a granny tranny messing them up.

nope, on top of being a Force Protection Officer i am also a Technician for the army as well. I have studied many eingines and ours is probably the best 4 cylinder design i have seen besides the suby boxer engine. and our ttanny needs a good swap. sombody needs to do research and see if we can swap the 6sp Vibe Gt/ Matrix XRS and Celica GT-S tranny or at least the celica GT 5 speed for better performance fpr us non gas friendly people.

correct, not to mention that a 6 speed would be cool to have in a base vibe or xr. but the celica gt tranny wold even be better than ours.

I believe the Vibe trannies are from the Celica.?EDIT: The 2005 Celica GT-S has the same gear ratios and final drive ratio as the Vibe GT / Matrix XRS

Interesting that the version of the 1ZZ in this paper uses an "exhaust header" style intake manifold, as did the Oldsmobile Quad four in its early days...

The .pdf is dated for February, 1998. But, I believe our engines are the second or third version of the 1ZZ. So it could very well be that it the design is used from an earlier version.

no, our engines are from the celica, the tranny is different. the celica has more performance potential where ours is economicaly designed for gas mileage. gearing is different.

The tranny mated to the 1zz Vibe/matrix/corrolla is the c59. The diference between the c59 and the c56 is that 3rd and 4rth gear are different. 1st 2nd and 5th are identical, but 3rd and 4th are taller in the Vibe. In the celica , 4 gear is direct drive where in our car it is an over drive gear. I may put a matrix xrs, or vibe gt 6 spd in some day. It should bolt right up. The celica gt-s 6spd trannys bolt up to the 1zz celicas.
