Those crazy kanucks.October 10, 2005The Globe and MailIngrid PeritzMONTREAL — Luc Boivin's lost cheddar is, according to this story, passing into local legend as the Titanic of the cheese world. The story explains that the Quebec cheese maker dropped a 2,000-pound cargo of cheese to the bottom of the Saguenay fjord last year in a ripening experiment. Then he spent this summer searching for it. And now, after deploying a team of divers and an arsenal of high-tech tracking equipment, Mr. Boivin has given up the quest, stating, "It got too expensive to continue. At some point, you can't be crazyAccording to a company estimate, $50,000 was spent to look for the cheese. The most popular theory is that its anchoring cables got caught up in the winter ice and that the cheese was carried downriver. Still, Mr. Dufour is not discouraged. The story goes on to add that Mr. Boivin dropped 10 barrels of cheese into the Saguenay last fall after a fisherman reported reeling in a piece of Boivin cheese from a lake bottom and trying it. It was pronounced the best cheese he'd ever tasted.Undeterred by the apparent failure of this year's underwater cheese experiment, Mr. Boivin is trying again. He still believes that underwater pressure will enhance the taste of an aged cheddar. So within the next few weeks, he will drop another charge of cheese in a stainless steel, submarine-type vessel into the Baie des Ha! Ha! But this time, he's taking no chances. The cheddar will be outfitted with a tracking device. All well and good but it seems that I read somewhere where the Canadian Food Authorities were not going to allow him to sell it anyway. Perhaps if it is sealed in a ss container they will.

Alrighty then.So this fisherman (whose name was not mentioned) reels in a piece of cheese from the bottom of a river. What the hell was he thinking even considering eating it in the first place? Was he lost for several days and ran out of worms to eat?Or was he just hoping for a good psychedelic cheese buzz?Or maybe the LSD he'd taken earlier made him think the moldy cheese was something else.Like maybe a magic fish or something.Quebec is a beautiful province, with great skiing and fishing and a whole pile of reasonably clean lakes, but there's NO WAY I'd eat something like that if I found it on the end of my hook.yuuuuukkk.

I know what you mean... WHY would you eat something you pulled from a river if it wasn't what you ment to catch?Wonder what kind of bait you use to catch cheese...
