POLL Engine coolant heater (block heater)

In winter, we must use the electric heater when the temperature goes down. The manual recommend to plug it under -18°C (0°F) or colder. I generally plug it at -10°C (14°F) or less. And you?At what temperature do you plug the engine coolant heater?

I never even knew that was an option till a couple of years ago....I was like "block heater" - (removed) ??

Heh, In texas they should have a block cooler... there are days where you remember your antifreeze being tested to -40f and wondering - I hope it's enough!

even if i had these options, which i wish i did, I currently dont live in a place where they can be used.

Gots to be colder than -15c consistently before I even think about it.For the Vibe - been 3 winters now and haven't even unwrapped the cord for the block heater yet...

That's the same for me. My old Ford Escort '98 never gives me any problemlower than -25°C. I normally think to plug the heater when temperature isshowing a tendancy to remain at the same level for more than 2 days. Andwhen this happen, I heat the engine half an hour every hour until soon in the morning. Then I start to heat constantly for a two to three hour long period until I left for the job early in the morning. I use my battery heater when it's increadibly cold outside only. And I never replace the battery since I bought the car...
