I have an 05 Vibe Base model whenever I am driving about 40MPH my care misses and the RPM drops and then immediatly raises. I took it to the dealer to have it checked out; they said it is supposed to do it to save gas. I have been monitoring my gas; i got 26MPH running around town, i put in a K&N and it remains the same. I have not been on any road trips in my car yet so I am unsure how much it will increase. Has anyone else had this problem? Have you solved it? How?It only happens around 2000RPM, same area each time, yes it is Auto Trans. I should have bought manual. Other than this problem I love my car.

GM has an engine (v6) that they are going to do that with but its not available yet.
Is it an actual misfire of the cylinder or is it just the auto tranny being stupid and jiggling between gear changes? An engine misfire will usually flash the MIL for the duration of the misfire cycle. It's also recorded in the ECU freeze frame data. Get them to read that.
I agree with scherry2's assessment of your dealer. Is it an automatic transmission Vibe? Could it be trying to shift up into overdrive, then deciding it's not worth it and then downshifting again? I have the 5 speed, so I have no experience with how the Vibe auto tranny behaves. Does it still do it if you turn OD off? Does it only do it at the one vehicle speed or does it happen only at a specific engine RPM? Is it related to how much you are stepping on the gas?
If it's not miss firing, it could be a defective fuel pump or dirty fuel line.

That is a load of crap. I hate dealerships. I took mine for the cruise not letting off down hill and they said that is normal. I have always ahd cruise and never ahd this problem. I have gotten 2 tickets with my cruise set exactly on the speed limit now. go figure. your problem is probably tranny related if it is auto. my friends vibe does the same and it is an 05. took it in and it was the tranny. They told him that it was supposed to do it and he was just traveling at the right speed for it to be doing that all the time. bwahahahahaha stupid idiots.

I have a 05 Vibe base FWD with a automatic transmission and I have no such issue's. The RPM's would be quite low at that speed but it certainly wouldn't miss. Mines as smooth as my wife's 05 Honda Civic automatic. I think you are being had by the dealer. Sounds like the fuel pump or could just be some bad gas but, I'm no mechanic.
I also though it might be an auto problem. If it was a misfire, you'd get a flashing CEL. The cruise won't put you more than 2 or three mph over the set speed after cresting a hill it was accelorating up to keep speed. This is normal and if the slope is steap enough, you'll stay a few miles over or even accumulate more speed. It will not make you go faster than set on a downhill on its own. That's gravity. Remember that you're supposed to drive the car and not the other way around. Do cops in your parts actuall give tickets for 2 or 3 miles over? Man, I'd be walking by now.

This may be TOO simple of a solution.I was driving home last night and enjoying the beautiful weather/sunset when i noticed my car slightly losing a bit of power at or around 3,000rpm or approx 60km/h (40mph) every once in awhile. The first thing i thought of was this discussion and 'oh no...not me too'.i tried to recreate the problem the whole way home and was only successful on some occasions.then, i was about 5 minutes from home, i noticed i had my ventilation system set to 'window defrost'....which means the AC cycles, etc.I switched it to feet only (or was it dash only?) and tried to recreate the problem...couldn't.Could it just be that you're driving with the window defrost on?I know, too simple of a solution, but i thought of this discussion at the time and thought i'd post.
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!
its not 2-3 mph over though, this thing will speed up at least 5 and most of the time around 8-10 mph over. yes I live in foothills of blueridge but none of my other cars did this.

My Auto does something like yours too? Except occasionally when I come to a stop or slow down to make a turn, the engine gets really rough, idles down then up then down then up, until I come to a complete stop or drive off. It's been doing this for the last month or so. Lately (twice in 2 days) when it's still a little cold and I try to drive off, not even hard, it putters a bit until I get up to speed. Then it drives perfectly? I ran it passed a mechanic and off the top of his head he thought maybe it was the torque converter. Wouldn't be that bad cause I would like a new race styled one, but I don't have the money right now.
