I'm close to buying - I have a new '05 Fusion Orange GT being offered to me. MSRP is $23, 135. I can get it for $17,470 plus tax, tag, etc. with all the discounts and rebates. Is this a pretty common deal or is this something I can't pass up?

Sounds like a steal to me, I just paid $20,000.00 for an '06 base 5 speed but I'm in Canada.Still at $6,000.00 off it sounds like a great deal.

If it's THE car for you, then it doesn't matter...you're still buying it, right?If it's not the car, but the price, then I'll have to suggest the used market. Dealer markup is designed to make a profit even after all the rebates and shell games are over. While the dealer will still make a profit on a gently used car, most used cars can be found for $2-$4000 less, and often still under warranty.Case in point: There are several used GT's in my area selling in the $13-$14000 range. That $4000 may be worth it to you to put in the 24-36000 mile break-in period, but not to me. Then again, if you plan to trade it within 2-4 years, you might as well lease--it will cost you less in payments. Best long-run deal, though, is to buy used and keep it as long as it runs.

It's good advice, but I do have a soft spot for the new car smell. But also, in my area there are only 2 used Vibes with Manual Transmission. And they aren't good colors and their asking prices are way too high. My initial plan was to find someone who was selling privately, but I guess no one wants to give them up! I think the stick shifts are just too rare - at least in my area.And I certainly didn't see any used (or new other than the one I found) Fusion Orange ones for sale!!!

That sounds like an excellent deal to me! What options do you have? I ordered my fully loaded 2003 GT back in February 2002 for around $21,800.

The options are Moons and Tunes, Power Package, Smokers Package ($15 for an ashtray and I don't smoke!!!), Monotone appearance package, and 17" Wheels/Tires.I truely wish I could buy used since I'd love to not be the sucker paying the initial depreciation - But GT's don't apparently live in the Charlotte area

The ashtray is still useful...especially if you have parking meters where you live. They make excellent quarter holders.

That is a great deal. I didn't get the 17s, but I did get the 6 disc changer and side airbags.

I'm probably restating what you already know, but you are aware that the GT uses premium (91 or higher octane) fuel, right?

Scotty, you should take the deal. It is a very good deal for brand new and with all those options. Also, the Fusion is not offered in the 2006 modles. You would be happy with that car in my opinon. Don't regret not taking it.

$6K off the retail will help you keep ahead of the depreciation curve as long as you finance for 60 mos or less. That's a pretty good deal there.
