New vibe owner with two questions

Hi, My name is Jim, my wife and I bought a new 05 abyss black vibe GT under the gm family pricing. It came with the moons and tunes package and monotone trim, power group. We like our new car but have two questions. Is there anyway to disable the backup beeping? We have a long uphill driveway that takes a moment or two to get out of, and by the time we get it into a forward gear, I have gone insane from the noise. Number two, was the roof rack supposed to come with any cross bars. The rack now is only the two bars attached to the roof. It looks like there is slots for some othere pieces to go into these bars. Thanks for any help, Jim

Welcome to genvibe! For the beeping while in reverse, here's a thread that has links of other threads for disabling the beep:
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=2975For the cross bars, i believe the 05 is the first year the didn't come with the car. They are on the 03 and 04s.

Welcome to genvibe. Some members have removed the crossbars and will place them for sale.Check the forum (For Sale/Wanted). I'm sure you will find a set for a good price.

Backup beeper? Is that something only on the GT?Mine has never made any noise, other than the seat belt chime, which got turned off by instructions found on the site.

Quote, originally posted by Atomic »Is that something only on the GT?That is correct.1st and reverse on the six speed manual are almost in the same position. When your backing out of your garage (early morning, late for work, no Tim Hortons coffee yet) make sure you hear the beep.

Congrats on the Vibe and welcome to the site. Beeping? Not sure about that. I have an 05 base, but no beeping when in reverse. As far as the roof rack... nope, the 05's don't have the cross bars like previous model years... that was one of GM's "enhancements" for the 05's. A few other "enhancements" include no auxilary power outlet inside the center console, and a lower less functional center console armrest, also engine intake mods are "less" available because of a throttle control change on the 05's.The good news is that all of the "enhancements" can be fixed. Enjoy your Vibe!

welcome aboard!after the first month or so i stopped noticing the backup beep. however, every time one of my friends gets behind the wheel and tries to backup in 6th, i'm glad it's there.

i disabled the back up beep because it drove me nuts! i also installed a small red LED light that came on so i knew i was in reverse. check out the links here and they will walk you through how to do it. i think it took me about a half an hour at most.

Why is the backup beep only on the GT? Why not all models?

Because on the 5 speed reverse is in the opposite corner of 1st gear, and in an auto, you should easily tell what gear you put it in. On our 6 speeds, reverse is right next to first gear. It definitely wouldn't be good to take off at a stoplight in reverse, thinking your in first, and end up backing into the car behind you. I'm used to the sound, doesn't matter to me, but when I have friends come in the car, they wonder why it beeps and it annoys them LOL.
