Posting for ColonelPanic: Intermittent Connection Problems

Ever since about 7 p.m. or so tonight, our dear CP has not been able to get on the site for some unknown reason. It was working intermittently before then and he hasn't even been able to ping it ever since. Does anyone know if anyone else is having any problems or any ideas as to what might be causing it? Everything else is working fine, it's only GVC that won't connect. I know I've heard of sites being down in some areas and not in others due to the route it takes through different servers, so we were just wondering if anyone else is having any problems or has heard of anything weird going on tonight on the good ol' internet...Thanks

There may be some possible problems.. pulled this from AudiWorld.com's forums (one of our sister sites):Quote, originally posted by AudiWorld.com Feedback Forum »Downtime Thursday (9/15) NightPosted by Johannes Erdfelt on 2005-09-14 21:29:28There will be some downtime on Thursday night around 9pm Pacific time as we move our servers to a new hosting facility. The downtime should hopefully be limited to about 1 hour, but may be longer. There will be additional downtime this weekend when we move to a new database server. I'll post a followup after we do the first stage of the move.If I hear anything else, I'll post.

Have you ever heard about "War of Worlds"... I'm sorry, I did not have any solution for you! Apparently, our networkis working fine right here.

It might be a system problem in his area. But who can tell. Hopefully he'll be back soon.

No problems here. Maybe it's the OS he is running.

Everything seems to be working from California (at least WRT the internet.)It sounds like a name server problem. Perhaps his ISP's DNS server has a bad or corrupted entry for genvibe. If so it will probably correct itself in 24 hrs or less. He could also alter his computer configuration to use some other ISPs DNS server, just needs the IP address of one.

Nope, he's using Windows at the moment at work...LOLAnyway, yeah the DNS nameserver thing was my idea...and the info Nick posted about a server move lends credence to that, so hopefully that's what it is and it will resolve itself soon.

That's more than likely the problem - with the switch of the datacenter, DNS records for genvibe.com (and the other domains under the umbrella) will change. He may still have an old DNS record with his local ISP that still needs to be updated. This replication usually happens within 24 - 72 hours (usually less than 72).

It works fine in Opera and Firefox but I'm still getting "page can not be displayed" in MSIE. Oh well. Tried deleting cookies and whatnot, still no go. That's odd.

lol! It's alright. I have yet to get there, so no telling what kind of shape Linux and MacOS X will put me in when I get there.

Yeah, Genvibe was 'invisible' to me for a while late Thursday night and early Friday morning (~11 pm CDT/EST to maybe 2 am CDT/EST) - that's when I shut it off and went to bed.

IE sucks. I use Mozilla and Opera now. Less spyware and the plugins are great.
