http://www.cnn.com/2005/AUTOS/....htmlNEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Ford Motor Co. is recalling about 3.8 million trucks and SUVs to fix a cruise control switch that could overheat and burn even when the vehicles are not running. The switches were the subject of a recent CNN investigation. (Ford document: Millions of vehicles have fire risk part)Ford said that its investigation found that brake fluid could leak into electronical components of the speed control system causing them to corrode. "Speed control" is an industry term for what is more commonly known as "cruise control.""In rare cases, the corrosion in the electrical components can lead to increasing resistance and higher electrical current flow through the system. Together, these conditions could lead to overheating and, possibly, a fire at the switch," the company said in announcing the recall.Ford will install a fused wiring harness between the speed control deactivation switch and the speed control mechanism of the affected vehicles. This will act as a circuit breaker in the event of increased electrical flow through the switch.Ford is in the process of acquiring parts necessary for the repair and, in the meantime, is advising owners of the affected vehicles to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the cruise control system deactivated. The vehicles included in the recall are 1994-2002 Ford F-150s, 1997-2002 Ford Expeditions, 1998-2002 Lincoln Navigators and 1994-1996 Ford Broncos equipped with factory-installed speed control.

Wasnt this a old bulliten or something? i heard about this a while ago with the suv's, but they are publically announcing it now i see. yea well recalls arent a bad thing, specially if its going to save lives! fewer recalls doesnt always mean its safer.

If I recall that's part of what they're doing. The switch has a small membrane between it and the master cylinder. This membrane eventually breaks down and this is what lets the fluid leak into the switch.

Again? Didn't they already have to recall a bunch of their crap earlier for the same problem earlier this year? What the heck is it with Ford products and spontaneous combustion anwyay? This has been going on for as long as I can remember, starting with the ignition switches back in the 80's/90's... Sheesh.

This has just expanded the coverage to include older and newer vehicles now that they have fully investigated. It only covered models from 2000 before.
