Dear Colleagues: We’ve all been stunned by the devastation and horrible aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Many in the DaimlerChrysler family or their loved ones have been directly affected. I want you to know what we’re doing and how you can help. DaimlerChrysler today is announcing a $1 million commitment to the relief efforts. As a part of that, the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund has approved a disaster relief grant of $500,000, which includes a provision to match gifts. The allocation is as follows: $150,000 will be immediately donated to the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund. $200,000 will be donated to other local charities in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama assisting in the humanitarian relief efforts. $150,000 is set aside to match individual donations of up to $5,000 to the American Red Cross from our employees, contract employees, retirees (from the Chrysler Group, DC Canada, DC Mexico, DC Services, Freightliner, MBUSA and MBUSI) and our dealers within the North American DaimlerChrysler enterprise. Donations will be matched on a one-to-one ratio for a period of 60 days, until the $150,000 commitment has been fully matched.In addition, DaimlerChrysler Services will make an additional immediate donation to the American Red Cross of $200,000, with an additional $50,000 employee match. Also, Mercedes-Benz USA is donating $250,000 to the American Red Cross. I don't see why more companies won't donate...The people need the help, and charity is a tax write off.
