I have a 2005 vibe with the moon and tunes system, and i keep blowing the sub. i never really go ver 4 bars and i usually turn the bass to 0 or even -1 sometimes. Is there a more powerful sub that will fit in the old subs compartment?

If you haven't done anything unusual volume-wise, the problem may not be with the sub itself, but perhaps the amp is defective and pushing out something that the sub can't handle. ColonelPanic had 3 speakers blow at once while listening to NPR of all things, and it seemed to be the amp that was the culprit.

Huh! I've been at 6 bars with the base at +3 numerous times and have had no problems. Have you have the dealer look at it to make sure everything is ok with the wiring and the amp?Welcome to GenVibe!!!

I think you might have another issue... I have mine up a lot louder than that and I have no problems with it.

well do you guys listen to real bass heavy music, like rap? Cause with some of the rap cds that i have have such heavy bass i dont even turn the volume past 3 bars

If you've blown the sub multiple times, i'd say there's something wrong either with the radio or amplifier.Finding an aftermarket sub to replace that one could be potentially expensive, and a pain to get working correctly..

I've got a 2003, and crank it all the time w/o problem. here's my question: where the heck is the subwoof?

Get your amp replaced...Back to the original question - I don't know what would fit in the oem sub area, it's a oddball shaped box. The sub would have to be 2 ohm if you'd like the Monsoon amp to power it efficiently.

Just a thought. What is the size of the sub in the 05 m&t. I thought it was like 5 or 6 inches. What would happen if you put an after market speaker that wasn't necessarily designed as a sub? Maybe a door speaker, but one that isn't a two or three way.You mention it needs to run at 2 ohms to work properly, but I don't really know if this type of speaker exists.Thoughts?

the sub is an 8 inch. when I was thinking of buying a vibe again I had someone crack the back panel open and let me have a look in our shop and you can replace the sub but I wouldn't advise it. If your wanting good bass I'd just disconnect that sub and use the amp to power your speakers and put a real system in the cargo area. As for blowing that many times there is obviously a problem in the grounding, hell MTX doesn't even go out that fast.

The M&T Sub ia a 6.5" dual voice coil woofer. Each vioce coil is rated at 2 ohms. I Replaced the M&T amp with two Sony XM-2100GTX amps (89.99 each at Circuit City). One amp for the sub and the other for the front speakers. The head unit and door speakers were replaced. The system sounds much more clearer and is more powerful.
