Window roll-up feature problem...

Ok, I'm back for more knowledge from you gorgeous, Vibe guru's. I just posted a question on my parking light wiring, for an alarm I just purchased http://aftermarketgeneration.c...id=33 and this post is for the window roll-up feature. I have not installed the portion of the system that rolls-up the windows, when arming. Of course, this means, that I haven't installed the windows roll-down feature, either. The reason I did this is because I know if I tie the correct lead into the the window wires, I will lose the abaility to roll-up/down all the windows, individually. There is a wire for "up" and one for "down", but not one for each individual window. The question: How do I separate the wires so I don't connect all the windows, basically, to one switch? I know I need some kind of relay, but, which do I need, and how do I install them? Did I ever tell you people that I like your cars? Thanks all, again-JamesP.S. The system comes with a "starter kill". It came with another relay, but, I have not installed it. Actually it's the one in the picture, on the site. However, the installation manual, doesn't say how to install a four-wire relay, to the starter, only a five-wire. Wierd. Any thoughts?

It needs to have a five wire relay for the starter kill. All alarms i've used have had a five wire relay. Otherwise the car would only start if the alarm 'turned on' the relay, which would disable your car if you ever had to disable the alarm. Which...isn't smart. So, your best option is to go out and get a five wire relay. As for the windows, you would either need to use a lot of relays, or a lot of Diodes, I would think. Many window roll up/down boxes will support two seperate windows, not just 'Up' and 'Down'. Without seeing the manual and/or wiring diagram..it's hard to say your best route.

Well, that stinks! the relay that came for my starter only has four wires... hrmmm. Gonna have to go get another one from Autozone or Checkers. The box really only has one for "up" an one for "down" totally bogus! That's what I get for 45 bucks though eh? Looks like I'm gonna have to get fancy with about 10 relays or diodes then heh!Great with the help. gonna have to look up the diode an relay installations and see which would be easier. Thanks again!-James

Well..actually..it can be a four wire relay HARNESS. It depends on the relay itself.Look on the relay, specifically on the bottom, are there 5 connectors? What are they labelled? If it's: 30, 86, 85, 87, and 87a, then that relay will work. The 87a is essential. You should have wiring in the harness that attatches to the relay going to pins 30, 85, 86, 87a. If so, then you're good.I get braindead a bit..so don't mind me..To get it to work, cut the starter wire, connect one end to pin 30, and one to 87a. Doesn't matter which way. Pins 86 and 85 should go to the starter kill wire from the alarm (usually orange), and ignition (specifically ignition, not accessory). Doesn't matter which way.As for the windows...do yourself a favor and go with relays. I believe the switches directly drive the window motors, and you'd have to get some pretty serious diodes to handle that kind of power. You should be able to get to the window wiring for the passenger side and driver rear window in the driver kickpanel. The driver window you'll have to go into the door for.
