Clutch life on a base Vibe?

I see that GT owners have had problematic clutches. Just wondering how long your clutch has been? How many km/miles on your 5 speed base with the same clutch?ORAt what mileage did you need to get it replaced?

I replaced mine at 75K miles, and although it didn't need it I wa in there anyway so figured I better do it since I wouldn't be in there again anytime soon. Well, that didn't work out as planned, but not because of clutch problems.I drive a lot of easy country roads for long distances. If I had to drive that many miles in an urban setting, I probably would have had a lot less pad on the clutch. I'd say get it replaced when you start to notice some problem, otherwise assume it's ok

HAHA yeah me to. I try not to be to hard on it, don't shift at to high rpms a lot as well as rev match on down shifting, plus use the breaks a lot.

I've got just under 60,000 KM on my Base. No problems, never a whiff of odour. Here's the link for a poll I started way back on the subject, which reported only one base clutch problem:
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=11875PS: Did a serach, there's now 53 "clutch" topics! Hmmm... wonder if there might be a problem?

I see I was one who started this thread...kind of ironicIt has been only this past week (I have now about 25k miles) that I have noticed the burning smell of my clutch on my 05 5 speed base Vibe . I promise that I am a careful and experienced shifter (21 years of driving a manual). The tranny fluid has been synthetic since almost the first day. The car shifts beautifully in the coldest of weather. Any suggestions? Just wait till it needs replacing? Anything to be gained by taking it to the dealership as a pre-emptive measure? I am disappointed if this implies a short life for the OEM clutch.

This is my first post. I have an 03GT and clutch is starting to slip. I'm an old guy, love the car, but am wondering what the best replacement clutch would be. I'm looking for longevity, I don't get on it that often. Is there any type of adjustment?I currently have around 68K miles

When you say "synthetic," did you replace the original tranny fluid with something aftermarket? I think I remember reading in the owners manual that the 5-speed had synthetic in it from the factory. I was wondering if it was worth replacing the stock fluid.

I did twice...for experimentation.First was with the manual recommended rebadged Castrol Syntorq (75W-85). For the past year or so I have had the MTL-R 75W-90. I know my '05 manual does not say it is synthetic/semi synthetic.

I'm at 87 000km and no clutch trouble... But I had my tranny replaced at 80k.

I have experienced slippage if I get on it from a stand still, and I have 75k on it. I have an ACT clutch and plate ready in the wings. I heard it was good and dependable.

I agree. I have a question. I was told eons ago that the OE clutch for the GT's are not strong enough to push the weight and handle the power of the car. Not saying the GT is the top power dog, but it has the most power around per liter for a vehicle its size. Anyway, the GT's need a stronger clutch simple as that. But I guess that will never happen b/c GT's are no longer built. So guys hold on to your GT's, it will be a classic is about 15 years. lol.

I have 87,000Kms on mine and no issues. I have abused it and burnt it once but no signs of trouble. Should something go wrong I imagine I'll upgrade anyways to something better.

I'm getting close to 160,000 miles on my '03 base Vibe, and fearing that the clutch can't last much longer. No problems to report, though, so should I wait until I start to feel it slip? I plan on driving from Ohio to Florida in the fall, and do not want trouble on the trip!

original clutch, original engine, coming up to 160,000 km (100k miles). Second & third gear synchros are a little sucky sometimes though. Doesn't grind, but just takes some effort. Still get 37+ US mpg all summer tho :3

Replaced mine at 126,000 KMS, boosting reduced the life for sure as I noted slippage about 6 months after the installation. New clutch is awesome.

My 2003 base has 134,000 Miles, all driven by me, still on the original clutch, still grabs strong.

Replaced mine on my '03 base Vibe at 120,000 kms. I bought the car in '05 with 80k mostly hwy kms, and since then it's been 90%+ city driving. The original clutch went through a rough first week with me back in '05, as I had previously been accustomed to the clutch on a '92 diesel golf that was silky smooth and had about 1/3 the pedal travel my Vibe does. I've got 28k on my second OEM clutch, and it's wokring just like the day I bought it -- I'll be satisfed if I can get the same mileage as the first one with it.

After reading this thread, I know to avoid buying a Vibe with a manual trans.Clutches that don't last 100k miles, and a trans that also didn't go that long?
