Filter performance.

Here's a link to an unbiased test of a variety of filter brands in the same application and conditions. It doesn't directly relate to the Vibe since our dry filters use a thicker medium than many paper filters and should filter birt even better without any additional restriction. The WIX (NAPA GOLD) fiter for Vibes happens to be really good though the one in this test did only OK due to the different medium. K&N and Amsoil foam is tested also. I've seen 2 other tests like this under less controlled conditions with similar results. In our application, the K&N should do better in the 'Accumulated Dirt Capacity' test since it has a similar # of pleats to the stock filter and in the test app. it has less. In the other tests both the K&N and Amsoil results are the same as I've seen in other reports and I feel is representative of their performance characteristics. http://home.usadatanet.net/~jb...R.htm

Wow, that test just makes sense. Thanks for that post."The Flow Restriction response curves for each filter have the same basic shape. However, note how the AC Filter, which passed the smallest amount of dirt and had the highest dirt capacity and efficiency, also had the highest relative restriction to flow. The less efficient filters correspondingly had less restriction to flow. This illustrates the apparent trade-offs between optimizing a filter for dirt capturing ability and maximum airflow."It seems a bit biased towards the AD/Delco filters - but if they perform like that, wow it's going to be a tough choice to swap it out for a K&N. Now in a real world example - the dirt that does get by the K&N, can it really harm your engine?

I am guessing this is for OEM filter replacement and not cone filters for CAI & SR. It's good info regardless. Thanks for the link.

I always use AC filters in my GM cars. People do not give them enough credit. Never had an issue with one and used them in my Jeep at the time.

Against a Wix in a Vibe you'll gain about 1 HP in a base and 2-3 in a GT with a K&N drop in. With that you'll get over 4 times more dirt. The wix for our app isn't paper and filters better than the one tested above. Dirt is bad.
