So are there any Virginians out there that can't stand the scrutiny of the Virginia road laws? Because I believe that it's boarder-line infingement of rights to not allow mods to a car! so yea, that was my rant...

What law doesn't allow mods to a car? I don't see how you could really enforce that, unless it causes you to fail inspecation. Which I would assume mods that don't affect safety or emissions should pass the inspection...I'm 15 minutes from Virginia and I've never heard of any laws like this.

Underbody lights are illegal unless they are disconnected from a power source, LED lights are illegal, and probably my biggest pet peev, Radar detectors are illegal. Well, I guess those arn't really considered mods anyway, but I know people who have gotten pulled over because quote: "their muffler tip is too loud"

If the muffler was violating noise ordinances, then yeah, I can see that...we have laws in two cities here now that if your stereo can be heard 3 cars behind you, they can give you a ticket. Underbody neons are illegal in a lot of states, and illegal in TN if you can see the bulbs I think... Are all LEDs illegal or just if they're exposed? (i.e. not just shining light out but actually with visible "bulbs")

When I said LEDs I meant in like taillights and whatnot. and also Xenon lights are illegal, but that hasnt stopped me...

yeah virginia street laws suck, your interior neons can only be so bright, you can't really tint your windows, you can have a radar detector but no power source to it(thats rel smart), they are trying to ban spinners in va too what next they gonna tell us what cars to drive and what roads to take??? things are going too far in va. but hey, thats my two cents. (great now im poor again) lol

What's their reasoning behind making spinners illegal? I mean sure, they are (removed) ugly, but if that were the reason a LOT of cars would not be allowed on the highways! That just doesn't make sense that spinners would be illegal.

hey you can get a ticket for blowing your horn in NYC, and they also have noise ordinances if you can imagine that!

wow this could totally suck for me if i plan on getting any mods done once i reach Ft. Myers. are there any other laws that suck that i should know about prior to moving? btw what is the legal tint limit?

The tint law is 50% fronts windows, 35% rear windows, and 35% rear windshield. Plate covers are illegal even if they are clear. Headlight & taillight covers are illegal. Basically almost all the accessories people enjoy on their vehicles in other states are illegal in VA.

when u say headlight covers and tail light covers are you talking the complete black outs or the cut out ones like jsut showing the ram head or bow tie??? there are alot of ones with the cut outs around here. spinners may become illegal bc its a distraction to other drivers. there was one case not far from me:a man (friends of a police cheif, go figure) was riding his harley and caught a glimpse of a car out of the coner of his eye. he saw that the hub caps were spinning.thinking the car was pulling out in front of him, he paniced and swerved, causing him to lose control and lay the bike over in the intersection. can we say embarrassing!!! i think he is an idiot for thinking the car was moving. but thats my two cents

Yes, in theory, the black cut out are illegal but thats not really enforced because I see people with them all of the time. Then again they have to take them off for inspections.

The tint laws suck; multi-passenger vehicles can have pretty much anything on the back, but since the Vibe is a stationwagon, we're stuck with 50% front, 35% rear. No outside aftermarket lighting. Interior aftermarket lighting is illegal if it can be seen from anywhere outside the car -- not the bulb, the light from it. No radar detector power. I've got etched glass flames on my headlights (semitransparent) and I've got to peel them off every year at inspection time and cut new ones out. As has been said, any kind of license plate or light covers are illegal. Those little LED windshield washer things are illegal. No strobes.I'm waiting to get pulled one day for the XM SkyFi mounted on my dash, because it's radiating red light into the car.

wow and i thought NC was gay because it won't allow fireworks, or atleast not any cool ones like the artillery shells
