Does the GT have the torque that the base vibe obviously lacks in the 0-60 zone?

If you redline in first and second gear, you'll be at 60 in no time. For me in my base, I hit 60 in third.

I test drove the base, and told the dealer to get a GT in and I'll buy it when it comes in.I thought the Base was sluggish. But when you hit lift in the GT it is night and day. She'll jump up to 85 pretty quick in 3rd gear lift.

Torque? Not really. Power, yes, but you gotta rev it. I think redline in 2nd is about 62 mph. But you can't be loafing along at 2500 rpm and expect much to happen by just mashing the gas, you gotta downshift.'03 mono salsa GT (no mods)

i had an 03 GT. it was OK at best in the 0-60 realm. still much better than the base model, but after slapping on a CAI and Unichip, that fixed that issue right away! of course, last winter, that also made it more difficult in the snow... go figure.

Platnum,Your 2005 Is not rated at 180hp, only the 03 is rated at 180hp.I believe your 2005 car is rated at 170hp.

Thanks for the imput, sounds like the GT is indeed a better car.

It's certainly better for go fast without a blower. I suspect most poeple would think the base is better. Quiter, smoother ride and easier to drive. I love my GT. Even though the GT has a hair less torque below 3k it's geared 20% lower so it's still significantly quicker, even down low.

I can't wait to get into my GT each day. Gets funner each time you drive it.

I never get tired of driving mine.

I got bored with mine for a while, then I came back to the site and it starts to be fun to drive again....and my gas mileage goes down the tube.

I think the GT is great except for the clutch!My Wife got a speeding ticket last night in garden city.That is the price you pay for driving A Vibe GT.And just for the record again!A base Vibe supercharged won't beat A stock VibeGT.

the clutch in my gt is very strange. i get told all the time the my clutch is going. anyone else have that problem??? other then that i love my GT. with the CAI its a whole lot better, i love it when i hit lift with the intake. by the way i have hit like 65 in second gear

The GTs clutches are notoriously sucky. More than likely if you're being told it's slipping...it is.If you're less than 30k, bring it by the dealership and let them know, and DOCUMENT IT!

I dont seem to have the slipage problem (*knock on wood)but I sure as heck get that burning smell if I happen to ride the clutch for a split second to long starting up a hill.

So I jump on them and threatend to write The NHTSB with Names, Dates, Times, Pictures and hoping to get some more names and Vin #'s from other Gt owners with the same trouble.If you smell your clutch anytime you are driving it, eventully you are going to lose your clutch.Jeff admited they knew there was a problem with the clutch in the GT and he was in contact with Toyota about it.After some serious thinking. I'm not sure the problem is 100% the Toyota clutch and presure plate, I think it could also be a problem with the Vibe GT Body.But that part of it will come out in time.Even if GM agree's again to pay to fix this issue, I may still buy an aftermarket clutch and just replace it myself.To assure this won't happen again.

yes, i don't recall anyone with an a/m performance clutch having any problems with theirs. atleast not like the factory one.
