PCV valve

how often do u change yours?and where is it located on the 2003 base engine? i have almost 88,000 kms on my baby now...just thinking i should do some maintance and keep her runnin sweet.

As far as I can remember, only a couple folks have ever brought it up. I know Toolguy changed his, and I'm halfway there - I stil have it in the car but never got around to changing the thing. IIRC it isn't listed on the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual. But at 55,000 miles by my calculation, I think it's a good idea to go ahead and change it out. Super easy, just pop off your engine cover and it's right there at the top on the driver's side, toward the rear of the engine.

i just found out there are 2 duferent PCV valves for our cars???huh???? PCV Valves FV406 16mmx1.5mm Th'd. PCV Valves FV407 3/8 Pipe Th'd. for whatever reason toyota is crazy....does anyone know for sure what the 03 base model in canada would have.short of guessing.im not good at that...lol

I just had my tranny fluid flushed and requested my PCV valve. Of course they didn't have it in stock so I only got the fluid flushed. They wanted $75 for that little screen filter.

could someone take a pic of where the PCV valve is.....i cant seemt o find it on mine.lol....i took of the cover but could not see it....take a pic and circle on it where it is......thx

If I was looking at the right thing, hopefully this will help. Figured I'd use your asking to see it as a good excuse to rip mine out and install the new one, but dang it I can't find the new valve anywhere. Anyway, as long as this is what I think it is, which *should* be the PCV (right where the big hose hooks on) then this may help.

Nothing like reviving a old thread but.........has anyone figured out which pcv valve the 2003 base has in it?PCV Valves FV406 16mmx1.5mm Th'd. PCV Valves FV407 3/8 Pipe Th'd. can u tell by lookin.....hope someone can help me.

Pk, so I have a dumb question...when and why do we need to change the PCV valve? Are there telltail signs of one that's failing?

i must say that i've never heared of a pcv valve but looked it up n found some general infoThe Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve is an emissions control device that routes unburned crankcase blowby gases back into the intake manifold where they can be reburned. The PCV system is one of the oldest emission control devices, and also one of the most beneficial. Besides totally eliminating crankcase emissions as a source of air pollution, the constant recirculation of air through the crankcase helps remove moisture which otherwise would cause sludge to form. Thus the PCV valve extends the life of the oil and engine. The PCV valve requires little maintenance. The valve and filter should be replaced somewhere around 30,000 to 50,000 miles

if it was for a matrix base or matrix XR both should have a 1zz engine and you have a vibe base 1zz engine then yes its the same.

ya i ended up getting my pcv at a toyota dealership.......took the old one in with me.......it had some #'s on it that the guy knew ere toyota part #'s....so he ordered it for me......like 10$ CDN or so.

There was room to use the longer one but I decided to put back the OEM and try to get the 22040.

Back from the dead! I still get confused as to why there are different part numbers for the same engines on my base models 2006 & 2007. I changed the 2006’s previously with Fram part# FV406. I’m about to buy one now for the 2007 & it shows a different part# from the 2006’s on Autozones’s website! WTH?! They’re both the same base model engines! IDK

They aren't the same engine! Sort of. The valve covers are two different parts, depending on where the engine was made. Some are the metric thread, some are the SAE thread. You can tell by the colour of the lock tite, and the part number you need is written on the PCV Valve.
