2006 Prices through the roof?

Correct me if I am wrong, but the
http://www.kbb.com 2006 Vibe pricing looks like a significant increase. They now price the AT as a separate model - Result is that the AT is included in a base price subject to a 6.5% msrp/invoice spread as opposed to being an option with a 12% msrp/invoice spread. Looks like part of the power pkg and anti-lock brakes are now standard. Comparing apples to apples as best I can a 2005 with AT, power pkg and antilock would have an MSRP of 19,915. inv. of 18,557 while a nearly identically equipped 2006 would have a msrp of 21,375 and an invoice of 20,002. The msrp spread has remained nearly the same 05 = 1,358; 06 = 1,373) so everything else being equal you can expect to actually pay about $1,450 more for an pretty basic '06 AT than was the case for a 2005. However, it appears you can buy a "manual" version with MSRP 16,990/inv 15,992 and get AT as an 850/748 option This does not come with as much std equipment.

I was just about to start a rant on how unbelievably overpriced these cars have become... When I first saw kbb had '06 prices, I went out and clicked the automatic at the top of the list.Fuel economy was down, ABS was standard, the price was way up there... I then realized that on kbb, the first Vibe (automatic) is actually the AWD. The one that lists manual is the base and you go from there to add things like the automatic, etc. What they've done with the pricing on their site is misleading, not sure why they did that... But even when I clicked on the right car, I still think the Vibe has become a rotten deal in terms of MSRP vs. what equipment you get, there's so many better equipped cars around to be had for that kind of money.

As I said - correct me if I'm wrong - and I was (to some extent). Since 1996 I have traded my cars every 2-3 years but as I only drive about 6,000 miles a year I think I am going to slow down. My '03 Vibe has about 15,000 on it so perhaps I can keep it for many years to come. It ought to be reliable. In the year 2011 I ought to have about a $3,500 GM rebate account balance.

GM is really trying to screw the Vibe into the ground, which I simply don't understand... It has a lot of potential and they want to ditch it for the G6 and Solstice. I think the only comparible thing GM has to it is the Vue and the Aveo. And please. Why bother?

I wasn't trying to correct you... Was just pointing out what I noticed on kbb.com.

No offense to anyone, but I wouldn't believe any pricing info until I see it with my own eyes on Pontiac.com.To ME, everything else, prior to official GM pricing, is nothing but speculation.Just my opinion.

Fine by me, means the older ones will have a higher resale value.

No offense - I asked for and needed "correction", Appreciated your input, clarification. and the knowledge that I was not the only one to misread the kbb.com info. Vibe's pricing is up - but not to the extent that it first appeared. Saw an article in the paper the other day that Toyota was holding the line on pricing of their 2006 Camry. I suspect that the 2006 Camry is less expensive than the 2006 Vibe. Add in the depreciation advantage and it is much less costly. I had a Camry in 1994 and it was perhaps the best car for the money I ever owned. Wish they would bring back the wagon or intoduce a hatchback.

by illusion
Edmunds also has brief tidbits about the '06 as well, though no pics yet...Looks like the base may start a little cheaper, but so far it looks like overall pricing isn't too far off from the '05. I guess we'll need to wait to get definitive numbers.

They get them from GM.
