Kuhmos going down hill?

Well I went to a local tire place yesterday to get a quote on some Kuhmo's. I believe they were the all season one ASXs. They gave me a quote and then told me I really didn't want those. I guess they are having terrible luck with Kuhmos right now and they said they're going to quit stocking them. They said Kuhmos have went way down hill or they just got the worst batch ever. They said that the Kuhmos have been going out of round in about week.So they recommended the Fuzions and they're about 10 bucks cheeper a tire for me as well. They seem to get about the same reviews as the Kuhmos anyway.

Going out of round. Means the tire is no longer round. The tire has bulges in it so they no longer appear to be perfectly round.

Must be a bad batch because I did a lot of research before I bought my Kumho Ecsta ASX tires and they had excellent user reviews on tirerack.com. I've had them on for about 18k miles and 14 months and so far they have been great. Superior to the stock Continentals I had. They are quieter, have great traction in wet and dry conditions, even used them in some snow, they look good, handle turns great, and the wear seems to be good so far.

I'd rate my Kumhos as "acceptable" after about 12,000 miles of use. THey still have quite a bit of tread left. Traction is still pretty solid. BUT, they have a serious issue with "wandering" and they love to pull the car in all directions when I hit uneven pavement. The Green Diamonds definitely did not do that. And I'm not talking a little wandering. They pretty violently jerk the car in any direction making me feel like I'm starting to lose control. It's kinda nerve-wracking.They also always look low, even at 32psi. (Nick, btw, my pressure was dead on when I checked it before I left Flint Sunday.) Would I buy them again? Quite possibly. Would I buy them again without shopping other brands first? Not so likely.

I have about 10,000 miles on mine without any issues. I agree, must have been a bad batch.

My stock GoodYears that came on my 17s are terrible with wandering. I have to steer the car down the road instead of just driving it. My winter tires are FAR more comfortable to drive.I have a trip to Houston in late July and would like to change tires by then if I can get the cash. 20+ hours on the road steering it constantly doesn't sound fun to me. Plus the road noise is horrendous with these.Still some decent tread left on them, but the insides are messed up because the car was way out of alignment when I bought it.

We sell about 4 sets a month. The aren't on the GM program, so we don't push them like we used to. Never had a single warranty tire for Kumho. Put a set on a Grand Am GT today. Mike, sounds like you need to find a tire dealer with a Road Force balancer. The road force machine can find broken belts, ect in tires. We use it on all tires, esp brand new ones to verify that the new tire was mounted correctly and has no internal damage, ESPECIALLY with a low profile tire, such as we have on the Vibe.

I've had a set of ASX's for the past 9k miles with no problems at all. Very nice rid, grip, balancing.

I've had a set of Kumho Ecsta ASX tires on my Vibe for 17,000 miles so far and haven't noticed anything like what your retailer mentioned. Check with another shop and see if they're saying the same thing about the Kumhos. Could be true; could be a bad batch; could be that this first place is actually trying to unload the cheaper stuff...
