2003 Vibe's accidental roll test

Just thought that I would put this out there for anyone interested.I don't know what the Vibe rates in the actual roll test, but mine did pretty well.I was on a four lane road on the far right lane. The person next to me did not look before changing lanes. He hit me onto the curb. Just as I thought I had control of the car, he hit me again. This sent me into a concrete retention wall at an angle. The car bounced from the wall and flipped on to the top. I was hanging upside down for more then 20 minutes before they released me from the car. They attempted to use the "jaws of life" on the driver's side and could not get it open enough and ended up taking me out the back passenger door. When I say that I was left hanging, I mean that the only thing holding me in was the seat belt.I am including a picture in case anyone wants to see. Happy (and safe) driving and don't forget to buckle up! I get my new Vibe later this week...I couldn't imagine getting another car.R.I.P Stanley

Glad you are ok. Did the guy that hit you stop or keep going? Good thing the Vibe is structurally sound and the roof held up.

Wow! Welcome to the site. You didn't need to prove how great the Vibe does in a rollover just to join us here. Glad your OK. Are you going to change anything as far as options/colors on your next Vibe?

Wow, was that guy stupid or what?!It sounds like you pretty much 'walked away', which hopefully is true. I'm glad the Vibe held up on protecting you!

The guy did stop...thank god. He wouldn't have gotten away anyway, there were too many witnesses. It was just after rush hour.I could have walked away, but they took me out and to the ER. I have a major bruise/burn from the belt and I have cuts from the driver's side window coming in at me. I also have red spots all over my face. (When I realized that the car stop rolling and I was still upside down, I screamed so loud and much that I broke capillaries in my face. So it is little blood spots under my skin.) I don't look pretty, but I am glad to be alive and moving!I am getting a new one in Neptune with the monotone appearance, but otherwise the same. I had pretty much everything in it before. The car has a moonroof on the top...it was "tilted" up. It didn't even crack.I am trying to convince the dealership that it is at now to put it in the front lawn as an advertisement for how safe it is!Thank you for all your well wishes.

Glad your OK. Bumps, bruises, and cuts heal Having ran with a volunteer fire department for 10 years, I have seen accidents that didn't look like much that ended much worse. Looks like our Vibes are pretty tough.Quote »I don't look pretty, but I am glad to be alive and moving! At least you looked at the bright side.

Holy #%@$Quote, originally posted by bonye »I am trying to convince the dealership that it is at now to put it in the front lawn as an advertisement for how safe it is!They should, at least for a little while. Couple that with the GM employee discounts and they will have themselves a real good promotional.Nice to see you are doing well after that.

Phew! Glad you're okay and the Vibe held up!If you're getting an '05, you might want to salvage your center console lid and center console power outlet parts as the 05 doesn't have them. (Well, it has a lid, but lower & without the compartment).

Thanks for the info. They kinda tore apart the separated capartment as it was hanging. That sucks, I am going to miss that.

Holy crap! what is it with the poor old salsa two tones? I've attached a picture of what our son did to ours last year. He flipped it 3 times after spinning out at 70mph, and walked away with a 1/2 inch cut on his arm and a bruise on his left shoulder blade. Glad you're ok too! Vibes sure do protect you well. Good choice buying another one!

Are Vibes more prone to roll-over because of a high center of gravity (c.g.)?

Holy Crap! And drivers side cornet looks like it rested against the curb! Glad you are fine, what a scary experience! This is about the third person I have heard about involved in a crash and the Vibe protected the occupants. Seems like a relatively safe car for the class that it is in.

That sucks, I am going to miss that.If it's worth it to you, there's info in the following thread on how to get the compartment lid from a Toyota dealer for about $100 and replace it:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=12602jmf2 Holy cow!!! That's amazing that your son walked away from that! So glad to hear he was okay. Thanks to you both for posting. Safety was a big factor in my decision to buy the Vibe, and between your postings and the guy that wrapped his Matrix around the tree, it seems it was a good decision. Hope your minor injuries go away quickly, bonye, and thank goodness everyone in both wrecks was okay.

I'm very glad you are getting another Vibe. I feel sad when people crash and end up buying a different car Congradulations on surviving a roll!!!
