Turbolatoer

Post by shibaman »

I bought the Turbolator tip direct from the Co. in Canada. It does give you more low end ,but would only open up under full pedal. At freeway speeds around 3000 rpm it would not open under accelleration. Maybe it would work better on a larger engine with more exhaust flow? I am going to remove the valve with a hacksaw blade restore it to freeflow. So I guess I payed 55$ for a nice srainless tip. I would not recomend this tip for a Vibe or Matrix.

Thanks for the tip on the Tip I had thought about buying the Turbolator exhaust tip, but with your feedback on the product I probably won't. Thanks again for posting your results to us. We appreciate the information.

I was brave and went X-mas shopping today and had a chance to see how it ran after I removed the flapper valve. It runs much better without it. I have a magnaflow muffler and resonator and a TRD airfilter and will stop with these mods.

I didn't think it would fully open until around 4,000 RPM. How did you know it wasn't opening on the HWY at 3,000 RPM?I e-mail the Turbolator company and quoted what you said about the problems. I'm curious to know why it doesn't work. If it doesn't work you should get your money back. I guess since you removed the valve you probably can't now. I'll post what they said if they ever reply.

I had my son run the rpms up to 5500 and the valve opened only slightly. If you reved to 6000 is would open only for a fraction on a second. It does not open at 3500 as advertised. I think that the concept is a good one but that they need to adjust the spring tension. Nissan uses this idea with their maximas and sentras with the dual tip mufflers. I also figured the cost and time of replacing it with a new tip would out way a warranty fix. It runs much better with the valve removed. At least the tip looks good and is stainless.

Ok I received 2 e-mails this morning. I sent 5. Here is what I got back.quote:Dear Derek Thank you very much for going to the trouble of passing this information onto us. We would welcome your member to call us 1-888-340-5643 to discuss his concerns. The note explains that the valve would only open up during "full pedal" but "would not open under acceleration." ?? Anyway, please feel free to call us 9:00-5:00pm EST 1-888-340-5643 and ask for Chris Dawson. Thanks Malcolm SissmoreVP Sales & Marketingquote:Thanks for the note. I have passed this on to Malcolm Sissmore my VP Sales & Marketing. He is more technically aware of the product and will look into this for you. Hopefully, we can get an answer for you. quote:hate to break it to ya... it is a scam..... people are always looking for cheap ways to get power out of cars Well its been proven that a free flowing system loses low end torque to to the absence of back pressure. I only thought that in theory, it does work, and has been put on manufactured cars (Nissan). Big name companies don't waste money on stuff that does not work and raises costs. I dont expect a big gain, just like you mentioned, but I do feel it can help out. I will be buying a tip anyhoo, so who knows. Don't get me wrong, I do respect your opinion and you do make valid points.

Yes I know car manufactures have played with the idea. I can't remember what model but I think BMW also installd a similar product on there 4 cylinder engines to help with low end torque.

any type of spring loaded valve will typically bind up after moderate use.... yes they CAN help with low end power... - BUT IMO if you want pow end power get a 6or 8 cyl.... a 4 popper will never really have the grint that you are looking for... the charger will help a bit though... 4cyl are for high end power.

I called Chris at Ultrafit and we talked about my problem with their product and he was very helpful and profesional with me. I am happy with the solution that he came up with. Maybe someone with a Vibe Gt or Matrix xrs might give it a try with better luck than I had. In the furture if I have a problem with a product or a vendor let me take care of the problem myself before you start sending emails to the company. I can fix my own problems.

If your upset that I contacted the company why would you be? You had all ready cut the valve out so I knew you could no longer get a refund or another unti because of the modification you had done to the unit you purchased. I know you very able to fix your own problems but I was only trying to help and get some more info on the problem so others didn't have this problem.Still not sure why someone trying to help you fix a problem would upset you but oviously it did and I'm sorry for that.

Don't worry, I just get cranky when I can't fight my own battles.I still think that with the right calibration or vehicle that tip would work. They show pics of suvs and trucks on their website. Chris said that he used one his 2 liter Golf and had good results.

Any kind of calibration would have to be done by the factory. I think that the idea is good but that it may need some fine tuning for a smaller engine. On my car it would only open under full ecceleretion. Base engine with open exhaust. Maybe it would work on a GT? They only charged me 55$ plus shipping for a 2" tip. I was willing to try it for that price.
