I recently purchased a new digital camera for my wife to replace our old Sony Mavica MVC-FD7. We decided on the Fujifilm S5100. Here is a picture of the camera, a brief description and a picture of a squirrel that she took at about 75 foot away (and no it's not me!)...lol. We were surprised of the quality of the shots we were getting. Some turned out good and some not so good. There is several settings that we'll have to learn to use before being efficient. Cost was 350$ Not to bad considering we forked out 750$ for the Sony a few years ago! We have the option of buying a wide angle lens and a telephoto lens along with many different filters to use with it. What kind of camera do you use? We have an Olympus Camedia D-40Zoom. Which was apparently highly rated when we bought it. It's okay, but the more I've used it, the more I hate it. So I'm on the market for something else. Some things that bug me:Battery life is crappy.It's 2-3 seconds from when you push the shutter button till it takes a picture. Thus, when a family member uses it, or we ask someone to take our picture, we often get shots of the floor. Trying to capture "moments" esp. of our son is next to impossible.Next-shot time feels like 3 days.Movie defaults to no audio. So every time you have to page through menus to turn on the sound. Which means, often we get silent movies when we forget.Movie mode is 30s max.It's fairly small X-Y dimensions, but bulky (thick).So here's my wish list; if you have any good sugestions, please post!Small size, with emphasis on thin. Fits in jeans back pocket qualifies.AA batteries (and easy on them 1 sec next-shot delayMovie mode with audio, defaults to audio on! - recording time limited only by memory. - 320 x 240 30fps minimum, preferably 640x480Preferably uses SD cards, but I'd consider others.Favorite picture? Tough choice..... but I'll have to go with this one cause it always cracks me up"Oh the crap I put up with around here....."

i've got a nikon coolpix 880. it's a few years old, but takes great pictures. the controls are laid out in a very intuitive manner, it fits nicely in my hand, and as long as i use a media reader, it's not too tough on it's batteries. when it's time to replace it, the latest nikons will definitely be high on my list.

I got a HP M407 from GM as my Mark of Excellance award this year. Most of the pics of my Vibe were taken with it. I had the same Sony that you had Ponyota!! It got dropped and stopped working. I am satisfied with the HP, even though the shutter reaction CAN be slow.

I use a Nikon Coolpix 3100 for everything. Its small, takes great pics and relatively inexpensive. I think you can get one for about $200 -$250. I love it!http://www.nikonusa.com/templa...25509

Olympus C-750. 4mp, 10x optical zoom. Like it. Takes pretty decent pics.A buddy of mine brought his new Nikon D70 with us fishing a couple weeks ago. VERY VERY cool camera. I have a bunch of 35mm lenses for my Pentax slr that I've bought over the years, and Pentax makes an *ist DS digital slr which can accept older Pentax 35mm lenses. I have to same up my pennies and get one of those things, or get myself one of the Nikon D70's.

I've got a Canon A80 4MP. Good camera... too bad a pixel is burnt out right in the middle.

casio exilim z40. 4 mpeg camera, 3x optical, 4 x digital zoom. small and compact, fits in my pocket or often i wear it around my neck. 2" screen on the back. the new ones are even thinner than mine, w/ a 2.5" screen and 5 mpeg! also has video w/ sound capabilities to record for as long as you have memory.

I have a Canon S1-IS. Not a bad little camera really. 10x Zoom, full manual controls, image stabilization, surprising battery life too. I use Energizer E2 batteries and so far have filled the camera's card 3 times on one set of batteries. This isn't really my favorite photo taken with the Canon, but it's a good one.

One thing that made our mind up when we bought the new one was the fact that we were told by my brother that anymore than 4mp isn't needed unless your going to go professional or make any larger prints than 11x14. So save your money and buy no more than 4mp if your going to buy new. With the lens adapter that came with the camera, we can use any lens filter in 55mm. Or use a telephoto or wide angle lens. There are so many options out there it isn't even funny. You'll make yourself nuts trying to figure out what you want or need! One option I would have liked to have was still shot. I guess we'll just have to invest in a new tripod for that. Walter, very cute picture! Your baby? Also, battery is used up fast if your using your camera to download your pictures to the computer. Buy a card reader, they are cheap and easy to use. You might want to invest in some rechargeable batteries to. I noticed that when we put the rechargeable batteries in the speed between pictures were much faster and the camera powered up in 1/2 the time. Take a look at your aperture settings, I notice that your camera has full manual functions to. If might be saved in a slower exposure mode. You should be able to do a 2 fps burst in HQ mode.

Yeah, that's our munchkin when he was 5mos. Thanks for the tips; we do have a card reader. We've also invested in some NIMH AA's and a charger that were well recommended for photo use. My wife is more of a camera expert than I am (i usually use AUTO, she gets into the manual stuff) so I'll mention the settings issue.

When I was shopping for a new camera about a year ago, the ability for it to use AA's was a big factor. I always carry an extra set of charged up batteries in my camera bag.

Canon Quick Shot, 4 MP... Love it, about the size of a pack of cigs!

Canon Powershot A40, 3.2 MP It sucks as far as I'm concerned or I really don't know how to use it right.

Kodak DX4530, and I love it EXCEPT that it's been disco'd, along with the Easyshare printer dock 4000 - stupid Kodak

That Fuji looks pretty nice. I bought a Nikon Coolpix 5400 earlier this year from Costco. It was an awesome deal for $300 when a year ago they went for $800. It is a very nice camera with tons of features. It's a 5 MP with a 4X optical zoom. Tons of manual modes and also 15 preset scenes. Check out this picture I took off my apartment balcony: I highly recommend this camera if you can still find it. There are many many good cameras out there, you just have to do some research before you buy.

canon a80

we had a HP M407 and it did great outdoor shots,but indoor shots it lacked! Gave a grey wash to everything. And my aunt the family photoshop expert, said nothing would improve the color quality. So I just got a new camera its the Kodak Z740!

Well as I said above I had the Canon A80 (still do) but for Christmas I got the Canon S2 IS with 12x optical zoom! Its sweet. My only complaint (and I had this on my previous canon as well), it constantly tells me to change the batteries when they aren't dead!
