9 months, 4 windshields

Can anyone out there give me any suggestions on how to perserve my winshield? I drive 150 miles a day on the interstate. Everyday, I find myself behind trucks carrying sand and gravel and dirt - and, of course, rarely do these trucks have covers or tarps over their load. I slow down to avoid these trucks, only to come across another one. Or, they've dropped so much debris, all the other cars are kicking up stones and rocks. And then there was that one time that I passed one of these trucks, only to be pulled over by a trooper for speeding (I just wanted to get in front of the truck to protect my winshield... and what's left of my paint on the hood) - is that sooooooooo wrong???Anyways, are there any products or pieces parts I can use that might prevent all these rocks from hitting me? Or, is the Vibe just prone to shattered windshields? I really can't afford $1000 a year in windshields...hjwii

that's a lot of glass. I don't know of anything that you can put on your windshield to make it less susceptile to breakage. I don't know if one of those bug deflector vertical plastic panels sticking up from the front of the hood would help or not. like silver said, adjustng your insurance coverage for glass breakage might help. Are there laws in your state about truck covers? might not accomplish anythng other than to make you feel like you tried, but maybe lobby the gov't for stricter debris contrlol laws, better highway maintenance, or better enforcement of existing laws.sometimes you just can't avoid the rock strewing traffic, although it does sound worse where you are than where i am. I suppose the problem is not serious enough to motivate you to move.

A bug deflector *may* help... I've had one on mine since about 4 months into owning the thing... Can't say for sure if it's helped from getting rock chips. Still on my original windshield - no major damage but it sure is sandblasted all to heck. It does seem to help quite a bit with the bugs though. I have the one from weathertech..

Probably so! I cringe at the thought of having to make any sort of claim... Took this long just to get affordable insurance...

I know how you feel lol I've replaced mine twice in about the same amount of time. I am seriously thinking about putting back my hood deflector. That might help but I ahve no soild proof.

mount a video cam on the dash so you can record the vehicle tha t causes the the breakage then go after them to pay your repair bills....
