made the seat backpack a little more useful today...

i don't know if i jsut got a bad one, or if they are all like this, but my seat backback straps (the ones used to hold it on the seat) came in two pieces... a set for the top and a set for the bottom. so if you unhooked the top you could run off with the backpack with teh bottom straps with the J hooks still on it.doesn't make sense to me.so, mom did her embroidering magic on them and sewed the together. now the strap stay firmly on the seat, with or without the backpack on. i had to turn teh J hooks around to do this, that was the only hard part since they jsut dont seem to fit all that great.a little thing making a big difference.Pack on....

GM Parts Direct has it for $50.40... That price has gone up since I bought mine from them last year (was $42 back then.) The GM part number is 12498113.Kind of a flimsy little thing, but it's proven to be pretty handy. Mine stays in the car, I never take it with me.

My wife just told me tonight that she would like to have one of those. I just can't see paying 50 bucks for one. Has anyone used another pack with the same idea as the oem one?

Not sure if you could rig up the same concept, but I got a cool convertible messenger bag with hideable backpack straps at Target a couple of weeks ago for $30. It's Eddie Bauer and really nice, even has a laptop compartment. It has places you could attach hooks on the bottom, which hold the straps when you have them out, and a handle on the top you might be able to rig something up for to take care of the upper portion. Might work.

Yeah, wouldn't be hard, I would imagine... It has a strap like you can see in the pics that goes between the headrest posts and clips to the backpack... Two adjustable straps with hooks down at the bottom, which latch on to the seat tracks.. That's it...If you can find another backpack and make the straps work, there ya go. Save a couple bucks.

leave it to the panics to hijack my thread without saying "ooooooooo" and "wow, thats the best idea i have ever seen" (then its ok )just search ebay, no luck.all you really need is a backpack that has some sort of jettison-able quality. you could probably make a setup that hooks to teh seat bak that is 1000% more elegant than the one that comes with the backpack DESIGNED FOR THE CAR IIN TEH FIRST PLACE!! are you lsitening GM backpack department?but then, can you live with yourself having a backpack in your vibe that doesn't say vibe. only you know if you will sleep at night
