OK all Just wondering if any of you Vibers also indulge yourself in Biking. Once I return from my treck to COlorado I will be purchasing a road bie with my new Girlfriend. A lil cheesey but we want to get the same bike... why not right? anyway, we are going to be doing some triathalons, and some long races, one is going to be the Shore to City in Jersey which is about 125 miles or so. it's a charity event for M.S. i believe. So with that said... we are looking at Raleigh, Giant, and Cannondale Road Bikes, probably in the $1,000 range. any suggestions would be more than welcome. Thanks again fellow Vibers!

Well after much thinking and going back and forth on what I will be doing I went with this gem of a road bike: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/...11163 My Girlfriend has a friend on her bike team and was able to get aus a helluva great deal on a pair of these. I also got my self one of these:http://www.specialized.com/bc/...=9345i couldn't pass it up. I think I got a good deal, paying cash 3 bikes, pick em up on Monday. Can't wait now I'll just have to get myself a pair of clip in road shoes and some super sexy padded shorts!

WOW that's one hell of a bike your friend has! I have to say I'm somewhat jealoous. I am however quite pleased with mine, too bad it was raining today when I picked it up, should be nice tomorrow (I hope!) I actually have to call the shop tomorrow, because the shoe half of the clip in is missing, being it 's my first road bike I just didn't know it should be there, found out when I went to get shoes. IT's on'y $20 beans when in the grand scheme of the price of the bike isn't much, but they should still be there.

I bought it used off someone that didn't know what they had for $200.

You'll have to excuse the seat and bars on the Ridley. That was immediately after the buld and before a test ride! The bars have been rolled down and the seat has been pushed back.Just a note...I didn't pay retail for the bike!! I'd never drop that kind of cash...It rides GOOOOOOD!

Well I called the bike shop, it was an oversight on his part that we didn't get the clips, so he is going to mail them up to me. I'd rather wait a couple of days than spend the green. I wasn't going to ***** him out due to the deal we got on the bikes. I took the Specialized out today to do the route i'll be taking to train on. It is a 10.8 mile loop starting with a steep downhill few flats and many hills. the steep down hill turns into one hell of a steep uphill half a mile to be exact. at the end! I sort of hate living at the top of the hill. It was a tough fride considering I havent been on a bike in a looooong time. Glad I got back into it though!

You mean my Molteni Merckx...That's when it was still built up. It's hanging in the shop now. I'll probably get it back together with some 10 speed D/A soon...Is that a JRT in your avatar??

hey Merckx let me ask you your opinion, what type of training regime do you follow? if at all. My main goal is to do the MS150 in south Jersey this Fall. 2 days 75 miles. what can I do to improve my skills?

To survive the MS150, you need to do some 3+ hour rides. Your body needs to get used to the idea of being on the bike that long. The thing about the 150 is the fact that there will always be a group that races it. Don't fall into the trap. Ride at your own pace.Eat and drink alot during the ride. At mile 20, start taking food on board and eat something every 45 minutes or so. You don't need to stop at every rest stop and have a sandwich, but a 1/2 Clif bar, a gel, a 1/2 pop-tart will do the trick. You can make it through the first 75 mile day without eating alot, but you will feel like (removed) the second day.The night after the the first day, eat protein rich food. The protein will help your legs for the next day.

interesting bikes (the Merckx and steel Look are pretty unique!)..I have an old Colnago from 1992 (steel and full Chorus group) that i used to race on back then...my first racing bike was a bianchi in the celeste green, of course.now i'm back after a few years away from the sport and riding the Fuji Team SL (as explained above). I've always been a big fan of the Merckx frames and always dreamed of owning one some day. WHo knows...!I once read on Mike Barry's site (races for what is now Team Discovery...and used to be in the pack back when i was racing. He's a great guy and his dad is awesome, by the way) that the team chef likes to make baked potatoes after stages in the tour and drizzle some olive oil on them. It's a good way to carb up quickly right after. A friend of mine that rode across canada did the same thing (boiled potatoes) and then drank the water to REALLY carb up!I've also read that you need to consume as much protein in the first 30-60 minutes after your ride as possible to prevent your body from 'eating itself'. I don't know much about this but I've followed it by having a nice tuna sandwich immediatly after a ride (good source of protein!)http://www.roadbikerider.com is a good site for info like this......while i'm at it, aside from the http://www.velonews.com for news, have you ever seen http://www.pezcyclingnews.com ? Good site....my avatar is my good buddy! he's 3/4 border terrier and 1/4 border collie!

(that must be one hyper lil doggie! I've got a 100% border collie 5 years old and still a puppy.) Great links, thanks. Never heard of those bikes, but I guess as I grow with my cycling so will my knowledge! NOw I just put my dreams a lil farther out of reach! but that's ok!
