I have put about 500 km on this brand new manual 05 Vibe. I do notice the suphur smell upon getting out of the vehicle. That is, I dont notice while in the car and driving. Should I put on more mileage and see if it continues? I know this was a problem with 03 and 04 auto Vibes and a TSB was issued. Anyone else noticed the smell for this year's Vibe?

Is it sulfur, or burning plastic?I've run over plastic bags in the road twice. Both times, they got stuck the cat and started melting. I could only smell it outside the car.Be sure before you rant to the dealer about sulfur...

It's intermittent, and I only smell it sometimes when I park in the garage, upon getting out. Never smell it in the car either. I'm at about 10,000 miles, and it seems to happen less often than it used to.

Did you use a brand of fuel that you don't normally use on this last fill? Did you go to a station you don't normally use? Try either changing brands altogether, or going back to a station you normally use. If it goes away after a tank or so, your fuel was the issue.Top Tier gasolines are ideal:QuikTrip, Chevron, Conoco, Phillips, 76, Shell, Entec Stations, MFA Oil Companyhttp://www.toptiergas.comNot sure if top tier applies to Canadian fuels, but I recently switched to Shell and, despite the 2-3 cent premium price, have noticed dramatic improvements in fuel economy. No-name branded fuels may also have a tendency to produce, um..."odors."

Actually that describes my situation EXACTLY. GMJAP is your Vibe an '05? And I guess you think that the sulphur odour associated with your engine is not indicative of anything more serious.

Thanks. As you may know my week old Vibe has just over 500 km on it. First tank was from Shell, the second from Esso. Again I notice the odour when I park it in the garage...I guess the exhaust vapours are trapped in concentration within the garage.

Are you smelling it every time? I had that same smell a couple times in the first 1000 miles. I haven't smelled ti since and I am at 10000 currently. I would say wait until you get over 1000 miles and if it is still there then get is replaced under the TSB which, as tnpartsguy mentioned already, now includes the '05's.

Logic would dictate that the '05 models would come with the correct PCM and the new cat. But that makes too much sense, so they just decided to replace half of the problematic components.

But it appears that the TSB doesnt include a manual transmission.
