Hi everyone ;I finally waxed my vibe today after having got it in Dec 2004 . I have been waiting and waiting for it to get warmer so that i could wax it. So today i got my vibe washed and put Mother's Cleaner wax and spent almost 2 1/2 hrs on it and my arms fell off But at the end of it i wasnt too happy with it the finish ,Though the car does shine and there arent many swirls mark But when you run ur hand over it ;it isnt too smooth very uneven . I was wondering if that is how it is supposed to be .Suggestions & comments are needed . Thanks in advance

Go over it with a clay bar and then wax it. I did my 5 year old truck last year and the finish was like glass afterwards.

I 2nd the claybar motion. It cleans up all the small embedded dust, grit, etc that waxing just covers up.Afterwards, it should feel like the inside of a new teflon pan.

Thanks guys ; I will give the clay bar a go over the coming weekend and let you all know how it went .Indeed like you all said there are minute spots of dirt and grim which have a prickly feel on touch .I guess the clay bar should be able to take them out .Thanks again .

You might have to go over it with a machine polisher after you clay bar it too, sometimes the grit the clay bar picks up will put very minor surface scratches in the clear coat, wax will hide them but once the wax wears off, you'll be albe to see them.

Just to make sure you're aware - the clay bar strips EVERYTHING off the surface. Make sure you wax again when you're done. A fun trick I read about a couple years ago - I still do it every time I clay, just.... because! Take a normal kitchen 'baggie', and put your hand in it. Rub your fingers across your car. Now clay a small section, and repeat the 'baggie rub' over that section. You will now be convinced that claying make a difference!

Thanks guys for the tips .I will let you all know how the claying went once i do it .I was thinking of using Mother's clay system and follow it with Mother's Sealer & Glazer and then use Meguar's Gold wax .It surely going to be a heck of workout for my arms . Do i need to really do the finishing with a machine .If it do it by hand will it be good enuf ??

Just a thought, I would use the Mother's Pure Carnuba instead of the Maguiar's. When I used to detail, we noticed that the Mother's comes off cleaner and easier, and lasts longer. It's a little more expensive but it works great. Be sure to get the paste wax, not the liquid. And no, you don't have to use the hi speed buffer on it, but you will get better results, if you want to go middle of the road on it, just use an orbital waxer. You won't get the best results but it will be better than by hand.

Butter wax and high speed buffer, yum yum, just be careful not to take the paint off around the edges.....
