Bought a Pioneer DEH-P7700MP HU yesterday and installed it no problem works great! Only problem is when I plugged the rca's to the amp I hear no difference. Don't understand why amp isn't powering the system. The way I had the amp hooked up before was with speaker level input wires. I spliced into the harness to connect to the stock HU. After I installed the new HU I disconnected the speaker level input wires and reconnected the speaker wires on the harness. The speakers are being powered buy HU but not amp. I know it's got to be something simple but I'm not to keen on wiring. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Glad you responded cause you helped me out last time when I was installing the amp to the stock HU. That was the answer you gave me then and it worked fine but this time around I've eliminated the stock HU and installed a new HU with rca connections so I don't think I'll need the connection you gave before. How would you go about connecting the amp to an after market HU equiped with rca ? I thought all you had to do was plug the rca cables in for frt and rear ?

HU set-up = HU - RCA's from HU out to AMP, remote wire out from HU to ampAMP set-up = power wire from battery, ground wire to metal, remote wire in from HU, RCA's in from HU, speaker wires out to speakersIf you turn on the stereo with the amp off and hear the speakers, you have a problem and your wiring is from the HU to the speakers instead of the amp to the speakers. To elaborate all I can say is look at this as a new install. Amp is installed as said and a new HU installed. Connected a metra wire harness to stock harness and plugged in.

How many RCA sets do you have on the back of your new HU?

1. Did you cut the speaker wires between the radio and the harness for the car? - The radio's speaker output wires cannot be connected anywhere to the car's wiring if you are running an external amp.2. Did you run the output wires of the amp to the speaker wires going to the car side of the harnesses?3. Is the amp physically powering up, did you run a 'remote' wire from the radio to the amplifier?

I have 3 sets of RCA's front output rear output and subwoofer or non fading output

First let me say the amp was first hooked up with the stock HU with the instuctions Poppypants gave me and worked fine. Then I decided to buy a new HU w/RCA's. I connected the speaker wires back up on the harness thinking all I had to do now is plug in the RCA cables to the amp and HU, but it sounds like I still have to have one set of wires coming from the HU to the amp. So 1. no the speaker wires are not cut. 2. No I did not run the output wires of the amp to the speaker wires on harness. 3. Yes the amp powers up.

1) If you have the speaker outputs from the radio connected to the speaker wires on the harness going to the car, the radio is still powering the speakers. You have to cut the speaker wires coming off the headunit.2) How is the amplifier connected to the speakers?Also, sorry if I sound 'short' or anything.. i'm just like, completely brain dead with lack of sleep...

Your right the radio is powering the speakers. I don't have the amp plugged into the HU right now till I figure out which wires to cut and connect to the amp.

Alright..you should have two harnesses that we're discussing here.-The one that connects to the back of the radio- The one that connects to the car's wiring, that you unplugged from the factory radio.The simplest way to do this is cut the speaker wires (white, green, gray, and purple) between the headunit and the car's harnessNow, take the outputs of the amplifier and run them up to behind the radio, connecting the appropriate channels (white - Front left, Gray - front right, green -rear left, puple- rear right) to the harness going to the car side. By doing this, you disconnect the radio amplifier and use only your external amplifier.I hope that makes sense...
