He will also supervise product planning andpublic relations.The well-traveled Beavis had last been senior vice president ofmarketing for Mitsubishi Motors North America, from November 2003 untilhe quit last fall. Beavis' previous jobs include a term as CEO of agency Foote Cone &Belding's San Francisco and Seattle offices. He also held top agency andcorporate jobs involving advertising for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A.,DaimlerChrysler and Ford Motor Co. For a time, Beavis also ran his ownadvertising and public-relations agency, called The Shop."I'm very pleased to be joining a company that has the vision, talentand resources to grow," Beavis said in a brief interview Thursday.Beavis, a 52-year-old Australian, will start the Kia job on Tuesday, May17. Beavis will step into the awkward position of replacing Wally Anderson,who has been sidelined with an illness since last spring. Anderson hasbeen promised a job upon his return, but Kia officials acknowledge thatthey could not allow the position to remain vacant. There is noscheduled date for Anderson's return.During Anderson's absence last fall, Kia conducted an ad agency review.David & Goliath retained its status as Kia's agency in the process. Kiaspent about $280 million on advertising last year.
