Seats - Transfering between a 05 Base Vibe and a 05 AWD Vibe

Post by NCVIBEOWNER »

A friend bought a 05 Base vibe with leather interior. She wants to have a cloth interior. I have an 05 AWD Vibe with the cloth interior. She would like to swap seats. Except for the seats and the AWD, both cars have identical equipment. Does anyone know if the front and rear seats are directly interchangeable?

Thank you. To insure that the swap is done properly, I told her that we could take both vehicles back to the GM Superstore where we bought them and have the service department swap the seats.

I have an 03 so I don't know about these fancy new things like leather interior. Is the leather just the seats, or does "leather interior" also get you leather on other things, like the door panels? Either way, they should be interchangeable

I'm not sure about the other parts being leather. There may be door panels and a leather wrapped steering wheel. So far my friend is interested in getting of the leather and having the cloth seats. If she wants to transfer anything else, I will research it and probably do it. I plan to go to the dealer to check out what is involved. Swaping seats should be easier and less expensive than getting an aftermarket leather kit and installing it on her existing seats.

You'll likely have a leather wheel and shifter in that car as well.Take note if one of you has side air bags...you can't swap out if one does and the other doesn't.Also, I'd recommend NOT having a dealer do it...you'll pay out the a** in labor. If you don't have side airbags (or if you both do), you can swap yourself if you take the proper steps.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

The Leather Interior package includes leather armrests in the door pannels and Leather wrapped steering wheel. I was advised to not switch the steering wheel. The only disadvantage to swaping is that the passenger seat has a weight sensor that affects the airbag deployment. If anything should happen to malfunction in that system, the warranty would not be honored due to the fact that the car would not have the original factory delivered seat.I don't know what is involved in removing the backrests of the rear seat. Any advice would be appreciated. It looks like some side panel trim needs to be removed.

If there is a difference in the sensor between the two (which I doubt) it would be to compensate for the difference in cloth and leather seat covering. You were talking about having a dealer do the swap, so they can't deny warranty because you had factory service personnel do work on the car. Also, technically, they would have to prove that the seat swap caused whatever problem you were trying to get fixed under warranty. Any mods that you do to your car should only affect the warranty for the stuff that you modify. They can't deny you warranty coverage on the engine because you swapped seats.

The service person told me that the only warranty that would be affected would be the warranty on the seats and whatever systems that the seat sensors would affect. However I would think that if factory approved parts are installed buy the dealer that technically the warranty would still be applicable. It probably would have to be determined in a court if the dealer choses not to honor it.

That sounds like a good swap to me. I wish I could run into an offer like that
