Need Your Opinion on 15" Wheels

Post by JohnC »

Well in a few more miles I will be buying the third set of tires for my Vibe. Original Conti's lasted 13k, 2nd set are Big-O Euro Tour ($525) that are going to be worn out after 25k. My priorities for tires are, high mileage wear out, inexpensive and low road noise.I am thinking about going to a 15" wheel instead of the 16, here are my reasons.-Alot more selection of tires/brands, could buy a high wearing model.-Much cheaper.-Softer ride (yea give up some handling)-Did I mention cheaper?I will probably look for some 15" aluminum factory wheels from an older car that has the same bolt pattern, offset etc. What do you all think of this? Am I missing something about 16/17" wheels?

ya, you will save money if you go to 15'', by I think you should stay with 16''. you will lose a LOT of handling. You should try Toyo 800 Ultra if they are available in your area. they have been quote has the best high mileage for touring tires, and they are available in 205/55R16http://www.toyocanada.com/products/800Ultra.html

Hmmm...I have heard good thing about Toyo tires, I'll take a look at the wear out number on the sidewall. Same with the Kumo's. I mainly am just looking for economy, and it saves alot in mounting/ballancing and shipping charges if the tires last a long time, even if they are more expensive initially. I usually go thru 6 sets of tires before the vehicle is worn out. Thanks for the feedbacks.edit; This is a great wearout warranty. Last unlimited mileage warranty (from Michlin) got me two sets of tires before they discontinued it.Here is Toyo'sSerious Warranty: "Millennium" warranty which includes:- 160,000 km wear out warranty with no time limit. Free replacement in the first 4 years- 6 years workmanship and materials warranty with no charge replacement in the first 4 years
