Anyone else have a real loud whining noise from there manual (5spd)transmission.Mine seems loud in 3rd gear at about 30 to 50Kph after driving my civic with 235.000km it sounds like a old truck. The car has 35,000kms

I had a tranny noise, but it did not depend on which gear I was in. Started as a whirring noise, about 25-45 mph (~ 40-70 kph) , and only there when I was giving it the gas, when coasting or in neutral the sound went away. After a while it changed into more of a rumble, and was only noticeable at speeds above45mph/~70 kph, but was still only when under load. It was never really loud, didn't drown out the engine/exhaust noise, but it was there, and was getting louder, more harsh. The GM dealer couldn't fit me into the service schedule, a toyota dealer said that I had a bearing going in the tranny. I ended up replacing the tranny with one from a wrecked corolla, seems to be working perfectly, but I only have about 500 miles on the replacement tranny so far.I hope your noise is something different and easier/cheaper to resolve.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=15551

Third gear seems to be the only one right now.I will bring it to my dealers attention at the next oil change.

At least you are still under warranty

Unless your oil change is next week, don't wait that long. What your describing has resulted in replacement transmissions and rebuilt transmissions in Vibes and is causing damage every time you drive.

If they are having problems you think they would have a bullitin on it.For a toyota based product it is becoming a piece of s**t

Your not the first one on here to have this problem. I have not experienced it with mine but did come across it when I worked for GM. Several members here have replaced bearings and their transmissions. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... id=13882If your ride is under warranty, take it in right away. And though I won't agree or disagree about the Vibe being crap... I will say once I am better off financially, I'm saying goodbye to my ponota and getting another Subaru to go along with the one my wife and I traded her Vibe in for...

Its due for a O&F next month,at that time I was going to have the transmission oil done and have the other seat fixed.I will wait till then maybe it will really scream by then so they will not say it is "normal"
