Noted this in today's Detroit News:http://info.detnews.com/autosi...x.cfm"The high-output model, slated to follow the introduction of the 2006 Solstice by a year, is rumored to be powered by a supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that will make around 200 horsepower and will be harnessed to a six-speed manual transmission. "Fun stuff

Hmm. Only 23 more horsepower from the S/C? 177 vs 200? That doesn't sound right.

If they supercharge it, you can expect better numbers than that.Funny because those Solstices pictured are probably within like 100 yards of my desk right now

possibly. when nissan was selling the supercharged versions of the frontier and xterra (2001-2004) the supercharger only bumped the stock 170HP to either 215 or 225 HP (i forget which, mine was an NA). There's rumors that both the HO Solstice and SKY Redline will have a turbo, not a supercharger.Of course, this is all rumor...

I think it is kinda bullsh$% that almost all of Pontiac's cars have a GXP out or in the process of coming out. Except for the Vibe.

not that you'd go and buy one since you already own a vibe...Which one do you think would sell first, a GXP Vibe or a GXP solstice? I'd put my money on the Solstice.

Supercharged Grand Prix's and Bonnevilles with the L67 only have 40 hp over those with the normal 3.8.

Yeah, they managed to squeeze some horsies out of that 3.8 in the 2004 model year. The GXP solstice WILL be a turbo car, using the 2.0L ecotec with a turbo. The supercharged 2.0, however, SAYS 200 hp, but most Redlines and Cobalts have been putting 210-215 to the wheels bone stock, so they're underrated by about 40 hp.Oh yeah, as well, the 177-hp vs. 200-hp? That's because an N/A 2.4L VVT is a little different than a boosted 2-liter. If you put boost into that 2.4 it'd make some pretty mean power, and it'd be fairly easy to do, because all Ecotec engines are modular - there was a guy with a 2003 Cavi w/ the 2.2 that strapped the 2.0's Eaton onto his car with very little drama.Either way, I think the detroit news is wrong - hasn't anybody seen the Solstice GXP spy shots floating around the 'net?

Quote, originally posted by autoblog »Happy New Year, sports car people! GM has released pictures of the Solstice GXP ahead of its debut at next week's Los Angeles Auto Show. The GXP is powered by GM's 2-liter turbocharged Ecotec inline four, good for 260 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, making it the power leader in the Ecotec engine family. The new 4-valve per cylinder Ecotec turbo features direct injection (a first for GM North America) and piston oil spray cooling. Other features include 18-inch wheels, a limited slip differential, and a choice of 5-speed manual or automatic. 0-60 times are said to be less than 5.5 seconds. The GXP should appear in dealerships in the fall.We can't wait to see this little jewel in L.A.! . Many more pictures after the jump, and still more later this week from our L.A. Auto Show team.See more here...

I get Envy-green every time I read that the stock Solstice with 177hp gets a boost to 260hp with a turbo, yet our 1ZZ's only go from 130hp to maybe 175hp with the S/C. Moral of the story: It definitely pays to have Bob Lutz on your side! NUMMI should invite him out to the plant for a week or two!
