Quote »Detroit - In a move to link General Motors and its vehicle brands more closely, the company today announced that its corporate emblem will begin appearing on all recently-introduced and all-new 2006-model vehicles produced and sold in North America starting this month. GM vehicle brands include Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Saab, Hummer and Saturn."The GM badge is a promise of trust to our customers, reflecting our commitment to deliver the best value to them," said Mark LaNeve, GM North America vice president, Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. "Our own studies show that consumers place a tangible value on the General Motors name. They like knowing that the car or truck they're driving benefits from GM's global expertise in powertrain, design, engineering, and advanced electronics. Our recent announcement that StabiliTrak (ESC) and OnStar will gradually become standard features on all GM cars and trucks is a tangible illustration of what GM adds to the individual and unique character of our product brands. We believe the time is right to capitalize on those impressions, starting in North America."LaNeve noted that the GM badge conveys an important message to consumers. "The name 'General Motors' speaks to people," he said. "It is a name people trust. We've been in business nearly 100 years and we're the global sales leader. Research tells us that many of our most outstanding segment-leading vehicles are not associated by the customer to be part of the GM portfolio. Seeing that GM badge on vehicles evokes our heritage of leadership and makes an easy connection between our great lineup of vehicle brands and the company behind them."The move reflects the growing trend, uncovered in GM's own research as well as in surveys and studies conducted by private firms, that consumers seek closer identity with the brands behind their favorite products. The GM badge will take the form of a small silver square, embossed with the GM logo, placed on both sides of the vehicle on an appropriate location between the front and rear wheels above the rocker and below the glass belt line.General Motors (NYSE: GM), the world's largest vehicle manufacturer, designs, builds and markets cars and trucks worldwide, and has been the global automotive sales leader since 1931. More information on GM can be found at http://www.gm.com. This will surely be the first mod on my SKY. De-GM-badging.

I think the idea is good for Saab. Most people don't know it is owned by GM and it may help the poor sales figures Saab has been seeing in the North American market. As for the other brands as Ragingfish says, it's just another badge to remove.

I do not like their placement for the badge.Maybe just one, on the rear, like under the other ones back there would look fine.

The ones with the square, metal button in the center did, but the new ones with the red plastic button on the top don't...

Did I miss something or was it part of the April Fools thread?I've wanted one very badly since I saw the first SKY (NOT the curve!) concept...now that I see the production version, I want one more. I am saving every penny I can towards one (I got 2 years to go), hence the reason I've more or less put a moritorium on Vibe modding for good. Not that there's much left I wanna do anyway.

Body by Fisher wasn't too long ago... My sister had an '87 Cavalier with that on the door sills... I believe mom's '87 Olds Ninety Eight she used to own had the same. My '82 Monte had the same. I don't think my '90 Cutlass had anything like that on it, nor did my '95 Corsica. So we're looking probably around the very late 80's when that disappeared... The seat belt buckles with the GM logo went away for good by the mid 90's. Remember the Dateline or whatever where you could hit the inside of the buckle (opposite side of the release button) and the seat belt would fly off? lol!"GM - Mark Of Excellence." lol!

Sure makes me feel safe since my '95 Buick Century had those very seat belts. I can't say I miss how scalding hot those things would get after the car had sat in the sun all day...

I parked next to a Hummer H3 and noticed the GM logo badge with the H3 badge. It will be interesting to see how many stay on the vehicle.

I am sure a lot of badges will stay on vehicles, the average person does not de-badge. Will it help, maybe... Chrysler used to put their Star logo in the same spot on some cars not for the same reason though. Maybe GM should also go back the the GM badged key for every vehicle! That was used for decades!I do not think this is the answer to gaining market share though.Just another badge to add per vehicle and listen to the Unions complain it takes longer to build vehicles now.

I'd bet that 97% of them stay on, because the everyday person doesn't bother to do stuff like that.Hell, just look around and see how many people allow their dealerships to tag the rear end of their car with their free advertisements.

(I bought it from a dealer 70 miles away.) Every time I take my car to my local dealer for service, it reminds THEM of the dollars that got away! LOL

"GM" on one side and the Cadillac crest on the other. The Caddy keys were also gold-colored. I remember the GM sticker on the inside of the door above the latch. I think that was universal across all brands and models.
