ok, I'm French, and not in mechanics, so I'm not sure if I will be clear, but lets try it. Is it possible to change the '03 rear torsion beam to an independant rear suspension, like the '05?

Only the AWD models get independent rear suspension. 05 base and GT models still have the torsion beam. That being said, you probably could convert it, but the amount of money that would be needed to make it all work would probably negate any benefits.

ah, I probably saw a AWD then... is anybody know why Pontiac and Toyota didn't go with an independant at rear suspension, to follow Mazda and others??

I read somewhere in a Corolla review that they chose to go with the torsion beam setup was due to ride quality... They placed empasis of ride quality over handling in that car, so thus here we are... At least that sounds like a good theory.
