Quote »Has Cookie Monster given up sweets?'Sesame Street' advocates healthy eating habitsThursday, April 7, 2005 Posted: 2242 GMT (0642 HKT) NEW YORK (AP) -- Something must be wrong in the land of Muppets.First PBS announced that "Sesame Street" would kick off its 35th season this week with a multiyear story arc about healthy habits. No problem there; childhood obesity rates are soaring. Then I learned of changes that turned my "Sesame Street" world upside-down.My beloved blue, furry monster -- who sang "C is for cookie, that's good enough for me" -- is now advocating eating healthy. There's even a new song -- "A Cookie Is a Sometimes Food," where Cookie Monster learns there are "anytime" foods and "sometimes" foods.Holy friggin macaroons and Lorna Doones!!! IS NOTHING SACRED! What is the big blue furry guy gonna be called now: VEGGIE MONSTER???THOSE %$&^(* $&^%&$ at PBS are going to force political correctness on EVERYTHING before they're done!(The whole CNN story is at Poopypant's original link)

that is pretty pathetic! but in light of all the issues of american obesity, perhaps kids need to learn at a much earlier age!

In 5 years it will have evolved to Cookie Monster becoming morbidly obese, losing his wife to a younger, fitter, cookie monster. And then shutting himself into his home after having both of his legs amputated due to Diabetes. That should teach those damn kids a thing or two!!

I'm sick of everything being PC, I hate that we have to coddle kids to the point that they snap and end up killing people. I never wore a helmet when I rode my bike, yeah, I got messed up a few times, but thanks to that, I'm not a sissy. How are these kids supposed to deal with pain and rejection when everyone is scared to offend or "mentally strain" them. Some teachers are not using red pen anymore because red is stressful to students **** THAT!!!!I say paint the paper red, stress them out, let them realize that not everyone in the world is there to give them a pat on the back and an atta-boy. I see kids doing things now that, if I did, I would fully expect my parents to beat my (removed). And since when did discipline become a crime. I say, if your kid is misbehaving give him a good smack on the (removed), not in public, I hate when parents do that, give a kid a good smack in the grocery store, keep it in the privacy of your own home, but discipline your kid. No more of this "time out" BS. It's just another way to coddle the little turd. I also disagree with parents buying everything for their children when they want it. I know this may offend some people on here (not meant to offend), but my first car was a 1987 Subaru GL (this was in 1997). This was passed down from my mom, the car was a total piece, but it was a car, I didn't whine and complain until I got a new car, I shut up and was happy to have a car. I sit around and work for everything I have and these kids are getting spoiled getting new cars and their parents are giving them money like it's nothing. What is this teaching them you may ask? NOTHING CONSTRUCTIVE. It is teaching them that everything is about them, F everyone else, ME ME ME ME. I can't wait until they realize that you actually have to go out, get a job, and whatever money you have, that is what you have to spend. And when you screw up at work, they aren't going to say "you'll get 'em next time" they are going to suspend you, or fire you. I am dreading working with the kids who are in high school right now, what kind of work ethic are they going to have if they never have to work. OK, now that I have surpassed the grumpy old guy next door stage, I will stop ranting.

This blows. Cookie Monster was all about the "C" he was everything good about greed gluttony and excessive glucose consumption. Now he will be Cookie Sometimes Humanoid Of Alternate Ethnic Origin!Actually, this reminds me of a rant I wanted to make on a different topic, and what the hey, this is as good a place as any. You ever see those emails? You know, the ones about how great things used to be before the light bulb, computer games and ambulance-chasing lawyers motive the politics of everything? Here's one I read recently (and a good website to boot!): http://shortarmguy.com/Scroll down to the "Email That Made Me Think The Most This Week" section. This is just an example, the one that set me off, but there are at least 20 of these similar rosy-lensed reviews of the past that fall into the same category. Here's what I think: The people that grew up in that golden age before all the crap this email is *****ing about (cell phones, food safety, pools, lawyers, video games, psychopaths, advertising, cable TV, tangellos, CAI & cat-back exhaust , and powered lawn mowers) are the same people that grew up to become or gave birth to the politicians, lawyers, advertising & TV executives, doctors, insurance brokers, pedophiles, zoning board commissioners, SUV engineers, murdering rapist kidnappers, Jerry Springer, Dr. Phil, school board idiots, traffic planners, urban sprawl developers and the guy who thought 55mph was a reasonable speed limit - not to mention the child psychologists that believe kids should be rewarded for getting up in the morning, not peeing on themselves and actually making it to school is a cause for celebration and federal endowment fund-age! If it wasn't for these people and their push on society then they would have nothing to ***** about and we could go back to the way it was.You know: when kids dies of polio, the flu and food poisoning and didn't know why. When kids were kidnapped and abused and there were no public protections to make people aware or able to deal with the issue. When everyone had to either live it a smog-congested filthy city or on their own farm raising their own sustenance. When companies could create love canals, Woburn MA leukemia outbreaks and other superfund sites without repercussion and the threat of nuclear war hung over everyones head like a black cloud. Yeah, great times.Anyway, I gotta get back to pretending to work, so I'll close with this: I grew up in the 70's running around in the woods, playing pick-up games of football, baseball, dodgeball or whatever, lighting fires & fireworks, playing in the streams, sneaking in to the local haunted abandoned house, building tree forts with lumber "borrowed" from local construction sites, shooting wildlife with slingshots, running capture-the-flag games that probably covered 100 acres of town, fishing at the local river, swimming in it when it wasn't too smelly, stealing nudie-mags out of the local dump, pretended we were gangsters in the bullet-ridden car wrecked out in the woods, built huge cities of sand, dirt and stick only to have Godzilla wreck them, watched Creature-Double-Feature on WSBK-TV every Saturday before going outside and after cartoons (remember when they used to be funny?) were over. Do my kids do all this? Nope. Computer games, structured outdoor sports activities, play dates...there ain't no way around it unless you really work hard at it, are extremely lucky or some combination of the two. It's just a different time we live in. So SUCK IT UP and GET ON WITH LIFE.And, C IS FOR COOKIE, AND IT IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!

If they would go out an play in their "being shot out of a cannon helmets" instead of sitting around all day, they wouldn't be fat, and if their parents would actually cook dinner instead of buying them McDonald's maybe they wouldn't look like the michelin man in clothing.

I bet that if remote controls had cloaking devices and were programmed to hide when not being used, we would all burn off 1000's of calories (sorry, I don't know the metric conversion for you Canadians ) looking for the damn things instead of just getting up and pushing the buttons on our TV/DVD/VCR/TiVo/DVD-R/Dolby 5/6/7.1 super-duper surround sound ear blastermificatorvision. For example: right now, I'm home, out of work, the sun is out, it's not raining and I'm sitting at the PC doing the same damn thing I did all day at work. In the other room on PC #2 of 4 the boy is playing WoW...damn technology...and laziness...and lack of motivation...but I'm sure Dr. Phil would tell me its not my fault...
