The right CAI for S/C Base Vibe

Ok, I've been reading alot of the old and recent threads and have made a decision to get the Injen CAI. But Wait! I'm right back where I started. No one has an application for one thats supercharged. (I dont blame them) I know some of you are running the S/C with the CAI. How did you make it fit? Does it just bolt up, are any mods necessary? Any pics? Which one are you running? Thanks, MarkUPDATE: I went with the TRD and it was installed today. Man, what a difference! I ordered the on for the base XR Matrix. The air filter is up against the fog light a little bit but, otherwise, clean install. Dyno results to follow.

I have been told that the TRD CAI is the best CAI to use with the S/C. I have seen S/C'd Matrices running with Injen CAI's and even WI. It can be done. You may have to cut stuff or other modifications to get them to fit right, which is why I was told the TRD is the best b/c you don't have to make any mods to it. It bolts right up and fits fine.

the CAI that are made for the vibe and matrix will not work with the s/c. you'd have to have a custom one made. the s/c changes the angle and placement of the stock throttle body (i think that's what it's called) location. a short ram MAY work, but not positive.

I have seen an Injen CAI with Water Injection on a S/C'd Matrix. It was at a meet here in SD a couple of weeks ago. It can be done. It does move the throttle body, which is why the other CAI's will not work without modification. However, I was told by the guy who was installing the S/C on another Trix that the TRD CAI will work with the S/C with no mods. It moves it, but not enough to prevent you from being able to use it. Even the Injen was in, but I'm not sure what they had to do to get it to fit. It can and has been be done. I have seen it myself. IM me if you want me to hook you up with the guy who does the installs(Dreday BTW). And on the short ram, it does work as Dredays old Vibe has a short ram.

hmm interesting. well, if you've seen it done w/o modification, then i'll take your word on it. from what others have said (and i'm assuming they have probably NOT done it) they say it can't. obviously if you did see it then it can work.

If you are seriously wanting to do this then I suggest you try to get ahold of Dreday. I can call him if you want and double check, but I'm just pasing along what he told me at the meet as I was explaining to him that I was trying to get a S/C as well. I saw his Vibe there (now Dugs) and other Matrices with CAI's on them. I think there are even pics of some of them on MO. Let me know and maybe I can hook you guys up since we are all in SD!

Update: Ordered the TRD CAI, SnowPerf W/I, E.L. Prototype header, & Magnaflow catback. Hopefully with the water injection, the CAI should be OK without getting an A/F controller. Stage one almost complete, then on to stage two. I'll bump this out to a new thread.-Mark

Good combo! The biggest reason why the TRD cai fits easiest with the SC is because the rubber boot that connects it to the tb is so long. That makes it easy to flex into position. I helped install an Injen cai with an sc and it BARELY fit because the bends pinned it right up against the side of the battery. You're gonna feel like you have a brand new car after all those mods! The SoCal sc community is growing...

Hey guys, sorry I missed this thread. Yeah, my base Vibe is supercharged and Dreday fitted a short ram intake in there. Its just a simple one he got off ebay, and it gets a little close to the strut, but no problems. I have a TRD CAI that I am going to install soon, and I didn't anticipate any problems with it after sizing it up.

Now the TRD one is bent differently then the Injen one. The Injen one curves up from the throttle body towards the hood, then bends down under the battery and into the front bumper. The TRD which also has a nice long rubber tube, goes more straight across instead of curving up before bending down under into the bumper. The TRD one should fit best for you so a wise choice.

UPDATE: I went with the TRD and it was installed today. Man, what a difference! I ordered the on for the base XR Matrix. The air filter is up against the fog light a little bit but, otherwise, clean install. Dyno results to follow.

update: dyno'd today. was at 148 whp (Dynojet STD) before the CAI & WI. Today Dyno'd at 163whp with the TRD CAI installed and the WI disabled. I am still trying to get the WI dialed in but with the 100 nozzle and the pump regulator at factory setting I dyno'd at 154whp
