Hi allAs the header says replaced my factory single cd unit with the Sony and I have no heater or shifter lighting although the remainder of my dash lighting is fine, Im not 100% sure if the 2 events are related although it does seem somewhat of a coincidence I have yet to reinstall the factory deck to see if the issue disappears but thought Id drop a line in here to see if its even feasable that the install of the new stereeo could have caused my lighting issues. Any incite anyone can give is greatly appreciated.Bored

Hi and Welcome to Genvibe!I'm not a electronics guru, so I'm going to leave this question to someone else to answer. Only thing I can say is have you checked the fuses? Other than that I can't help ya, sorry.

I'm not really one of the electronics people here. But my guess is that it's a fuse that blew. It could be that one fuse is connected to both problems. I'd at least start by checking the fuses. Some of the guys here have schematics for the wiring system and can probably help you much more than I. Sorry

Does your instrument cluster still dim when the headlights are on? Does the dimmer knob on the left side of the dash still do anything? When you connected the wiring, did you use wiring harnesses and just connect to the factory wiring, or did you cut the factory wiring? If you used harnesses, check the two orange wires coming off the harness. They're both tied to the dashboard lighting. Make sure you didn't tie them together somehow.

Yes all dash lighting and dimming effects work flawlessly, its just those 2 items the shifter lighting and the heater dial lighting. I used a harness but I'll have a look for the orange wires you mentioned.Thks for the reply,Bored

Turned out to be the 15 Amp tail fuse, however the reasoning for it being blown is stil la mystery as stereo was installed with battery disconnected so no grounding could occur. Anyhoo I'll keep my eye on it and big thanks to all who replied and offered help/Bored

I have a similar problem but it isn't the fuses. I posted it on another thread here:
http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...26084. If anyone has any clues, I'd appreciate it.

For the bulbs even though you can see their little filaments, there still could be a crack in them. Thus why doing a "Fonzy job" hitting the dash moves them enough to make contact and burn. However once off and the filament cools, the crack opens again. I would replace the bulbs, possibly even with LED bulbs. For the connector, I have not had my dash apart so I cannot make a comment but doe the cig light work and what about the 110 volt socket. Those are the only things I could see that two wire connector going to. All Vibe have the same heater control unit so it is not like it is an unused connector for a option you do not have. Possibly it plugs into something further in the dash and the female connector is just sitting there now waiting for this male connector.

Nothing is backlit on that part of the dash or shifter.Quote, originally posted by ToolGuy »For the connector, I have not had my dash apart so I cannot make a comment but doe the cig light work and what about the 110 volt socket. Yeah, someone else said it was probably the connector for the optional led light around the cigarette lighter. I dug all around in there trying to find another connector or plug and didn't see anything within reach, so I suspect they're right. The 110v socket works and so does the cigarette lighter.
